Hotpoint gas oven doesn't light

As mentioned by several others, burners work fine, broiler lights but the bake burner won't ignite. I replaced both the glow igniter and then the clock/motherboard after testing showed there was no voltage to the gas valve for the bake burner. The problem started when attempting a self-clean; after 2 hours the stove shut down, having tripped the circuit breaker. I reset the breaker and the same thing repeated itself - breaker tripped after about 2 hours. I'm baffled. Any assistance would be much appreciated. Jonathan

SOURCE: hotpoint 30" self cleaning gas range with sealed burners - no bake

It may be the ignitor, they can crack and you wouldn't even see. Good news is they are cheap ($5-20) and they are usually easy to replace. But before you replace it...

When set to bake, does the "oven cycle" light come on? If not, that means no power is being sent to the ignitor. Reason? There is a switch in the oven latch, to make sure a) latch must be closed for cleaning cycle and b) latch must be unlocked for baking. On mine, the switch button gets stuck, so even when the latch is unlocked, it thinks it is locked and will not allow the bake cycle to proceed. Cycling the latch a few times may free it, otherwise you'll need to replace the switch (not that hard but a bit of a pain to get to).

Hello,

FOR THE OVEN NOT HEATING

The problem beleive it or not is that the bake igniter is weak ,and it is not drawing the proper amprage to open the gas valve. If you have a amp meter access the wires to the bake igniter(usually behind the storage drawer) and check for 3.3-3.6 amps when oven is set to bake by clamping the meter around ONE wire wire of igniter make sure only one wire, either one and not both.
if amp draw less than 3.3-3.6 amps replace bake igniter. I know it seems improbable that if the igniter comes on that it could be the problem.Professional appliance technicians who would charge a average of $250.00 to repair your oven, have found when the igniter comes on yet the oven won't heat that a weak igniter is the cause 100% of the time

FOR THE SURFACE BURNER NOT LIGHTING The holes on the burner espically those around where the electrode are dirty/clogged. By using a paper clip/safety pin to push in and clear the holes then clean the burner up with some steel wool the burner should light. GENE

I have a whirlpool gas oven model # SF367LEKB and the oven will not ignite. You can hear the ignitor clicking but it will not light. The broiler and four burners work fine. This happened several months...

Hello,
What you need to check is if the spark is strong at the bake burner. To do that remove the oven floor and the flame spreader under the oven floor, set the oven to bake and look for a good bright spark. If the spark is good the bake burner needs to be replaced,if it's a weak spark the electrode(spark Plug) will be needed.
The part numbers are

Bake burner 8054077
Electrode 8054129
They could be purchased at your local appliance parts store or online at;
searspartsdirect.com
apdepot.com

I hope this will help youto beable to repair your oven,

Our GE profile oven model JGsp31wet1ww oven will not heat up. When i set the oven to say 400 degrees, it just stays at 100 and never heats up. The broiler seems to work fine and the stove top gas burners...

pull out the racks and remove the bottom floor of the oven, turn it on bake,if the ignitor doesn't glow most likely it's bad,if it does glow and it doesn't ignite within 40 to 60 seconds the ignitor is bad.even though it glows doesn't mean it's good,it works by amps.it takes 3.2 amps.for a flat ignitor to open the gas valve and 2.5 amps for a round ignitor to open the gas valve.

Oven will not light - top burners and broiler work fine. Oven igniter glows when oven bake is selected but burner will not light. Is bake igniter replacement by owner practical?

I would first check the amperage of the igniter. If the igniter is pulling the amps it should then the problem is the gas valve. In my experience the igniter is usually the culprit. They are not difficult to change just make sure you unplug the oven because some times there is live voltage on these wires.

Oven won't light, even with ignitor getting red

If your oven won't bake, check these:

Bake igniter
Other causes
Bake igniter Usually when an oven won't bake, it's because the bake igniter is weak or burned out. The igniter is a small, round or rectangular device, that's about 1 inch by 4 to 8 inches. It's near the burner itself.

The burner is the tube-type device the gas flows through before it's ignited. It has many small holes on the sides to let the gas, when ignited, form a long, low flame. If the igniter is weak, if it glows red but doesn't get hot enough, or if it's burned out, the gas doesn't flow to the burner and the burner won't ignite. If this is the problem, you may need to replace either the igniter or the gas safety valve. Usually the igniter is to blame.

Other causes Other reasons that your oven may not bake are:

  • The clock settings are incorrect (if you have timed baking or a self-cleaning oven).

  • The thermostat is defective.

  • The safety valve that prevents accidental gas flow is defective.

  • The selector switch is defective.

Oven burner won't light

You likely have a bad ignitor. It's like a mini element that heats up and then ignites the gas once the valve releases it. When the ignitor gets old it doesn't glow bight enough or draw enough amperage so the gas valve won't open. If you set bake and see a glow coming from under the plate in the oven but the burner never lights that's your culprit. They probably cost about $50-$80. Good luck!

Oven not working, but broiler is...

Very well could be. I'm assuming the bake burner is the problem, right? Does the igniter glow at all? If it is glowing, but the burner does not light, is it usually a symptom of an igniter that has become weak. If it does not draw enough current the gas valve will not open and the burner will not light. This is a safety feature to prevent free flowing gas without ignition. If the broil burner is functioning properly, then more than likely the gas valve and regulator are working fine. In most ranges both burners are fed from the same source. You could try swapping igniters between the broil and bake burners to prove the theory. Or, you could just replace the igniter all together. Current readings are as follows: Round shaped glow igniter: 2.7 to 3.2 amps Square shaped glow igniter: 3.2 to 3.7 amps If you can give me the exact model number off your range (usually located around the oven door or on the back of the range) I can give you the correct part number you will need. Most appliance repair stores carry the igniter. I hope this helps you.
