Blank Black Screen After Windows XP Loading Page

Shut the computer down 3 days ago and it has not booted since. When I press the power button I get a quick DELL page that briefly gives a F2 or F12 option... goes directly to the normal Windows XP page with the loading status bar. That page goes away and you think the thing is going to load and work as usual.... but it doesn't. I have a blank black screen with a white arrow cursor that works. Nothing has happened past that, not even after several minutes of sitting there.

I have looked around in the settings directory that I can access by hitting (I think) F2 and reset everything to default.

I booted the computer from the Drivers and Utilities CD and have ran several (I believe every) test. All say PASSED and it has given me NO Errors.

I need some direction with this problem because I am not by any means a computer whiz after the windows Xp loading page the screen turns completely black and nothin happens after that.

what do i do?

The easiest solution would be to re-install windows and hope it is not a hardware problem

Gx620 boots up, then screen goes blank, reboot gives blank screen with cursor blinking. will boot with cd but still shuts down after a minute or two.

Remove the battery and open the case. Look inside the computer with a flashlight to see if any of the capacitors are busted or leaking from corrosion. The capacitors look like little battery towers, but they are not as tall as the AA or AAA batteries.

If the capacitors are bad, your computer goes bunkers.

It is not starting up

Hi,

Good day. I suggest for you to reinstall windows and use the repair options. Usually software encounter errors or some files might get corrupted causing your computer not to boot up properly. The repair option in Windows XP will help you to fix those issue. here are the steps to follow:

1. Rule out hardware issues. Windows Repair will only fix software problems. Hardware issues can also cause boot problems (i.e. bad hard drive, memory, CPU, or power supply).

2. Backup. It's always a good idea to backup your important data before making changes to Windows XP. Relax, if you follow these instructions your data will be perfectly safe.

3. Boot from your Windows XP CD. Insert the Windows XP CD into your computer's CD-ROM or DVD-ROM drive, and then restart your computer. When the "Press any key to boot from CD" message appears on the screen, press a key to start your computer from the Windows XP CD.

4. A blue screen will appear and begin loading Windows XP Setup from the CD.

5. When completed loading files, you will be presented with the following "Windows Setup" screen, and your first option. Select "To set up Windows XP now, press ENTER". DO NOT select Recovery Console.

6. Then press F8 to continue

7. Next, Windows Setup will find existing Windows XP installations. You will be asked to repair an existing XP installation, or install a fresh copy of Windows XP.

8. Then just choose repair option to repair your Windows Xp

9 Then it should work. If iin any case that will not solve the issue, you might try to install fresh copy on Windows Xp

Hope this information will help you resolve your issue. Have a great day.

I have XP Pro OS and I didn't gracefully shut down when it said Windows shutting down. I pressed the power button to shut off manually because it was taking too long. Now when I turned pressed the power on...

If you're still able to access your start menu:
Start>All Programs>Accessories>System Tools>System Restore

Select "Restore my computer to an earlier time" and click next

Choose an available restore point, one of a time before the incident occurred. Then click next.

I'm not sure how long this will take but it will notify you of a successful restore.
