SOURCE: Dripping Drain valve on rheem water heater

If your water heater is 10 years old or more, it's much better to replace the entire thing before you start having additional problems with it. You MAY be able to drain your water heater and replace the valve with something more reliable, but, as I've said... if your water heater is old, this is just the 1st thing to go wrong. More will follow.

SOURCE: pop off valve dripping Rheem 50 gal electric valve at bottom

If you are reffering to the drain valve at the bottom of the hot water tank. It may be leaking due to the O ring being cracked or worn out. You can either drain the tank and replace the valve or you can buy a hosebib brass cap and thread it on the existing valve. There is no cause for alarm when doing this as this valve is just to drain the tank when replacing your hot water heater

SOURCE: water dripping out of drain line

The T & P valve is connected to the drain and it may be bad causing it to drip. You could try lifting the lever and then closing it back on it to see if it will seal. Also check the thermostat for heat setting, but than likely it is going bad.

It is a pressure relief valve and normally last about 5 years or more before they need to be replaced. The purpose of this valve is to protect heater from building up pressure and protecting the home, It releases water once the heater reachs beyond the limit of the valve can handle.

It is a standard 3/4" thread and can be removed with a pipe wrench. Just turn power, water off and drain water down to just below where the drain is.

Lowes or Home depot shoul dhave one just ask for a pressure relief vakve for a Hot Water Heater. prices range around $15.00.

Testimonial: "The response you forwarded to me was not the problemm. I simply had to drain tank down and replace plastic drain valve to a brass one. Plastic Drain Valves are prone to leaking"

Can I install 4500 wt elements in a marathon MR50238? The tank specs are the same as MR 50245.

1) Product warranty will be voided if you install 4500 watt elements in year-2008 model MR50238 3800 watt marathon tank.
Older 3800 watt element models have been discontinued.

2) Copy following links for Marathon resources:
http://waterheatertimer.org/Review-Rheem-Marathon-water-heater.html
http://waterheatertimer.org/How-to-replace-water-heater-element.html

3) Product warranty is voided if element wattage exceeds label on side of unit.

4) Marathon has a problem with elements burning out frequently.
To solve this problem, they suggest installing element with lower wattage, such as the 3800 watt.
Upper 3800 SP610130
Lower 3800 SP210197

Rheem Marathon Water Heater leak at pressure relief valve

Unless you are getting more than 150 PSI, you should just replace the valve. It has dirt in it.

Vacuum valve leaking water

Question is unclear.
What is a vacuum valve?
You posted under electric water heater.
Water heaters are associated with TP or 'safety overflow' valve, water shut-off valve, tank drain valve, pressure-regulating valve, mixing valve and possibly a few other plumbing valves.
Vacuum valve implies that a compressor is creating pressure on one line while creating vacuum on another line. I don't know of a water heater that uses air compressor.

I have a Rheem 40 gallon hot water heater which is about 2 years old. The drain valve drips a bit while the hot water heater is heating up the water and then stops once the water is heated up. What is the...

When you say drain valve, do you mean TP valve?
Two different things: -drain valve and -TP valve

-Drain valve is located near bottom of tank and has hose thread on end.
-TP valve is brass and is located on side of tank tank near top on , and has a pipe that runs down within 6" of floor, or pipe goes into a drain pipe. DO NOT CAP OFF TP VALVE because this is safety outlet that prevents extremely hot water from rupturing tank.
http://waterheatertimer.org/Leaking-water-heater.html

1) If drain valve located near bottom of tank is leaking, it can be capped with a garden hose cap from hardware store-home center. Thread cap on end of drain valve.

2) If TP valve is leaking.
a)Turn down thermostats on water heater
http://waterheatertimer.org/How-to-adjust-water-heater-temperature.html
b)Replace TP valve
http://waterheatertimer.org/How-to-replace-TP-valve.html
c) Install expansion tank on incoming cold water line
Buy expansion tank at hardware-home center-plumbing supply and tee straight out from cold water line and attach expansion tank. About the size of small football.

This event has only been reported once in past 10 years that I have read, and it blew out side of home. Stats for this type event don't exist in insurance company records, so you are safe - just don't cap off TP valve.

After connecting a drain line to the pressure relief valve of my MR85245 water heater, I now have water leaking badly out of the heating element door.

Turn off the electricity.
Turn off the water valve going into tank.
Open a bathtub spout to let hot water pressure off the tank.
Check top of tank for any leaks.
Open the top access panel and see if element is leaking.
Open bottom access panel and see if lower element is leaking.
The reduced pressure on the tank will slow the leak.

If element is the problem, you can squeak by for a while by turning on the hot water heater only when you need hot water.
Order the 'Marathon MR85245 replacement element' online
http://www.gpconservation.com/rheem/marathon-sp213670-titanium-4500w-lower-element
These elements may be available locally, but they are not the same as 'ordinary' tank-type electric heater elements that you buy at the hardware store.
Buy more than 1 element because the Marathon elements have problems.
One of the reported problems with marathon elements is the high price of stainless steel replacement elements.
Drain tank.
Replace element.

My preasure valve is leaking it is the second time i have to change it in 4 years. is that normal

http://www.thetankatwaterheaterrescue.com/forums/forum3/

There are reports that elements on the Marathon cause problems.
This comes from the guys who repair water heaters.
But I think the problems are mostly that the elements burn out frequently and are expensive to replace.
There may be other brand-specific problems I'm not aware of

Another thing you can do is put an expansion tank on the incoming cold water line.
Expansion tank is used when water heater temperatures are set high
The expansion tank absorbs pressure during high-heat events so pipes and tanks and pressure valves last longer.
