Canon Powershot SD1000 Uploading Pics To Computer Problem

My Canon Powershot SD1000 acts like it shuts off when I try to upload pics to my computer. When I plug the usb into the computer and the camera into the usb the Camera will still work perfectly fine in picture and video mode, but when I put it in the mode to view my pictures because once I do that the computer dectects the camera to open the program to transfer the pictures the screen goes blank before my computer can detect it and it looks like it shuts off, but thje green power light is still on and if I switch it to a different mode it works, but having it in the display mode is the only way i can transfer pictures but each time I switch it to that it "appears" to shut off before my computer can detect it

Oh boy, me too, and I see there are no solutions offered yet! The camera and program used to work just fine, now I can get a pic to load about 1 out of 30 times! In fact it may have quit forever now. Sure hope one of us can find the answer.

Uploading pics

Probably a Microsoft update is the culprit. Use a card reader to download your pictures to a folder you create on your desktop.

My computer will not detect my camera when connected.

Suggest with the camera disconnected from the computer, you uninstall, then reinstall the Canon software. (Start>Control Panel>Add/Remove Programs, or Start>All Programs>Canon>Uninstall) Windows is a 'funny animal', and drivers need to be occasionally reinstalled.

Canon Powershot SD1000 Uploading Pics To Computer Problem

Since your two cameras have the same problem with the same computer, I would like to suggest you to connect those cameras to another computer. It looks like the problem is on the computer side.

Consider NOT connecting your camera to your computer.

The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use any photo cataloging program.
