After loading disc, DVD player runs message "disc cannot be read, please check disc" despite the use of differentet discs. Does machine disc reader need to be cleaned?
The DVD player keeps trying to load a disc, for as much as five minutes, and the sometimes gives the error message "Can't read disc". This is happening even with DVD's that I was previously able to use in the player.

This is so frustrating. I've tried several movies that I've been able to play just fine before but now I get the error message, "dvd cannot be played, please check disc". Well, there's nothing wrong w/the disc as I tried it on my PC and it plays just fine. I used a Philips cd/dvd disc lens cleaner that does have these little fiber things on it and when inserted into the player is supposed to clean the lens. This didn't help, any other good cleaners out there that I should try that will actually fix this problem or is it just time to buy another player? Mine is less than 3 yrs old. The VCR part works just fine..go figure. This is so frustrating. There are a few different cleaning kits out there these days for DVD or CD players. I would recommend one that actually has fibers on it so the it brushes the lense of the DVD player. These cleaning kits can be found just about anywhere. Have you tried to clean it with anything?

Hi Nigel,
There are three reasons for discs not playing.
First, if the set has been lying for some time, the loading belt becomes lose and the loading is not complete. The result is no disc play.
Second, there is dust on the lense. Again the result is no disc play.
Third, the lense unit has gone bad or weak. Here also the result is no disc play.
I also have a Samsung Dvd player. If it is a dvd you burned yourself it may not recognize the disc. If you have loaded a purchased or rented disc and it still won't load, I would say the head is dirty or the unit is defective. I would try a head cleaner first.available at most electronics stores If that doesn't work you probably will need to send it in for repair.
good luck
usually this happens when lens cannot read the the disc. Due to few reason
1 Your disk is scratched
2 Your DVD lens is covered with dust
3 You need to replace DVD lens Try another few CD/DVD to rectify whether there is any problem with dvd you are trying to play
if this error occurs on all the dvd you played then the most likely proble is with your DVD lens
either its coverd with dust use Disk cleaner if not you got to replace a new DVD lense as per model
try clean the lens with cotton buds gently/smoothly...try audio cd or vcd to play if it will play and not playing if the disc is dvd...lens for replacement partially burnt
Its Sounds as if your DVD went kaput this tends to be a problem with most combination players usually the VCR goes first also you may need to run a cleaning CD made for DVD players maybe that will help.
i would say for some reason your dvd player is not compatible from now on with that brand of blank dvd!
get the firmware update from the brand website all you do is download the file burnit on a cd and put it in the dvd player should fix most and eventual problems
This is happening to me right now :-/

same problem1
I tried a CD/DVD player cleaner, and still no luck. Any other suggestions or is it probably just time to get a new one?
Same issue.

DVD wontt accept new, DVD-R or DVD+R. Get thefollowing message:
This disk cannot be played
Please check the disk.
I also have a Samsung DVD-VR330 that does the same thing.
Any suggestions other than get a different brand?
