Filled paper try - 100 sheets. Printer is 2yrs old, been working fine
Tip up L170 and ensure paper detect flag is not broken or dislodged

Tackler- I dont think I have a solution but I know that the cassette should stick out about 5cm i.e. the cover just fits on nicely. I found with mine sometimes it needed a firm (but not hard) push in as obviously some sensor was not being tripped and it would just not pick up the paper in the tray. Have you tried using the top down feed? At least if that works you can print (and you can stack up a couple of pages).

The paper size selected in the menu system must match the paper size in the rec. (recording) paper tray. If you have 'letter' size paper in the tray and the menu system is set for 'A4' paper you will get this message. Either put A4 size paper in the tray, or change the paper size in the menu system to 'letter'.

OK, I was having a similar problem: Tray full of paper and tray adjusted properly.
Whatever I tried, the printer kept saying load paper.
I went to print menu>properties button (windows XP this is next to the printer name)>paper source tab.
It tuned out that the paper source had been changed from cassette to multi-purpose tray.
Change it back to cassette and you should be golden.
If the paper is curled, uncurl it before placing it in the cassette. Failure to do so will cause paper creases and a paper jam.
17 lb to 20 lb bond (64 to 80 g/m2 ) paper is acceptable.
The cassette holds up to approximately 500 sheets of 20 lb bond (80 g/m2 ) paper.
Make sure that the paper stack does not exceed the length and width guides' claws in the cassette. Failure to do so will cause a paper jam.
Do not load extra paper when there is still paper left in the cassette.
Only load one size of paper into the cassette. Do not load different sizes of paper into the cassette at the same time.
Do not load labels or transparencies into the cassette.
The cassette is for plain paper, colored paper or recycled paper only. Loading other paper in the cassette may cause a paper jam.
If copies are curled, or a paper jam occurs, remove the paper stack from the cassette. Turn it over and then place it in the cassette.
If you load paper while making copies, do not load a different paper size.
