Precor Error Code 22 Error Code: 22 Manufacturer: Precor
Model: All Models
Error Description: Error 22, No Motor Pulses at Start Up - Error indicates that the display has sent a command for the drive motor to start, however, the speed sensor has not returned the signal acknowledging that the drive motor has started. Possible Reason:

  1. The line of sight between the speed sensor and the speed sensor target is obstructed.
  2. Badly worn drive motor brushes.
  3. Incorrect gap between the speed sensor and the speed sensor target.
  4. Incorrect adjustment of the speed sensor potentiometer (when equipped).
  5. Inoperative speed sensor.
  6. Faulty lower PCA.
  7. Faulty interconnect cable between upper and lower PCA.
  8. Faulty upper PCA.
Recommended Action:
  1. Using a static safe vacuum cleaner, carefully vacuum out the drive motor compartment. Be sure to thoroughly clean the area between the speed sensor and the speed sensor target.
  2. Bady worn drive motor brushes cannot make proper contact with the motor commutator, therefore the drive motor will not start when voltage is applied. Inspect and replace drive motor brushes if necessary.
  3. Inspect the gap of the speed sensor to the speed sensor target. Proper gap is 3/16" and the speed sensor photo eye should be aimed at the larger portion of the targets wedge shaped section. If unit has a magnetic speed sensor, the gap between the end of the sensor and the flywheel tooth needs to be 3/16".
  4. Locate the speed sensor potentiometer (when equipped) on the lower PCA. Set the speed sensor potentiometer to mid-range. Start the treadmill and increase speed to 6 mph. Carefully adjust the speed sensor potentiometer until the treadmill is operating the smoothest. Increase the speed to full speed and again adjust the speed sensor potentiometer until the treadmill is operating the smoothest. These two adjustments are typically small and are generally only a matter of fine tuning.
  5. An inoperative speed sensor will allow the drive motor to start and run briefly before the error appears. If able to access the speed sensor wiring, measure the DC voltage between the speed sensor leads. Two of the leads will always read about 5 VDC. Two will toggle between 0 and 5 VDC as you slowly turn the speed sensor target. If both measurements are not seen, the speed sensor needs replaced. Some units have the speed sensor mounted on the lower PCA and the lower PCA needs replaced.
  6. Determine if the lower PCA is bad by swapping with a known good lower PCA.
  7. Determine if the interconnect cable is bad by swapping with a know good cable.
  8. Determine if the upper PCA is bad by swapping with a know good upper PCA.

SOURCE: I have a M9.41si -

The belt is erratic ,This indicates problem with DC board or the motor. Manually push the belt in the direction in which it normally moves. If you have difficulty turning the belt, there may be an issue with the belt/deck friction. If the belt turns freely, there may be an issue with the DC board output.
Use a multimeter to test the black and red lead wires that connect the motor to the power supply. An external power cord connects the motor the power supply.
Most probably its a motor issue. Its got weak, because in most of the cases its seen. But in some cases the board is checked faulty.-------- Get the motor as well as board checked to confirm the fault.
This will help.Thanks.Helpmech.

Treadmill Norditrack x32i belt not running even though the screen shows that it is running. Anyone have a solution?

It sounds like there might be a problem with the belt or the motor. Here are a few things you can try to troubleshoot the issue:
  1. Check the belt tension and make sure it is properly adjusted. If the belt is too loose, it may slip on the deck and cause the treadmill to stop.
  2. Check the belt and deck for any visible damage. If the belt is damaged or the deck is worn, it may cause the treadmill to stop.
  3. Make sure that the motor and controller are properly connected and functioning correctly. You may want to check the wiring and make sure there are no loose or damaged connections.
  4. If you have checked all of these things and the treadmill is still not working properly, it is possible that the motor or controller is malfunctioning. In this case, you may need to have the treadmill serviced by a professional.

I get an error message E1 on my Athlon model Simplicity treadmill. Belt stops. Any ideas on what this means?

Step 1:

ERR 1 - Motor Movement

ERR1 indicates a speed issue. In this case, the motor speed as reported from the optic sensor differs

from the speed setting.

Analysis: Optic sensor signal issue -- Either the optic sensor signal is not right, or it is read incorrectly, or

the signal is not reaching the display.

Clean the s.speed , test for open or faulty-see the diagram for adjust. tight the connector very well.

God bless you

I currently replaced the walking belt on my C954i/C956i treadmill. When I plugged it back in and turned on the power, the treadmill has no power. What could have happened?

Dear Sir:
I can read you trouble, and follow the next steps:
ALIGNING AND ADJUSTING THE RUNNING BELT
The correct alignment of the running belt is critical to the smooth operation of the treadmill. The belt is properly aligned at the factory. However, during shipping and handling or by use on an uneven surface, the belt may move off center and require a few simple adjustments. Before aligning the running belt, check its operation by following the procedure in Checking the Alignment of the Running Belt. If you determine that the belt needs alignment, follow the instructions here. CAUTION: Special care must be taken when aligning the running belt. Turn OFF the treadmill while adjusting or working near the rear roller. Remove any loose clothing and tie back your hair. Be very careful to keep your finger or any other object clear of the belt and rollers, especially in front of the roller and behind the deck. The treadmill will not stop immediately if an object becomes caught in the belt or rollers. Realigning the belt takes a few simple adjustments. If you are unsure about this procedure, call Precor Customer Support (see Obtaining Service.) Take the following steps to align the running belt on the treadmill. To ensure your safety, make all adjustments while the treadmill is OFF. 1. Make sure the treadmill is OFF and the running belt has completely stopped. 2. Locate the right belt adjustment bolt in the rear end cap of the treadmill. (To determine left and right, stand at the rear of the treadmill and face the display.) See Diagram 24. The direction you turn the bolt depends on how the belt is tracking. Make all belt adjustments on the right rear corner bolt using the hex key provided. • If the belt is off center to the RIGHT, turn the adjusting bolt ¼ turn clockwise, which moves the running belt to the left. • If the belt tracks off center to the LEFT, turn the bolt ¼ turn counterclockwise; this moves the belt to the right. Important: Do not turn the adjusting bolt more than ¼ turn at a time. Overtightening the bolt can damage the treadmill. 3. Turn the unit ON. 4. Stand beside the treadmill and press QUICKSTART. 5. If you are prompted for a password, press INCLINE ??¼, SPEED ??¼, SPEED ??². The running belt starts automatically after the 3-second countdown appears on the display. 6. Press the SPEED ??² key until the display shows a speed of 3 mph (5 kph). 7. Walk around to the rear of the unit and observe the running belt for a few minutes. The belt should run centered along the running bed. If the belt drifts off center, you will need to make adjustments. CAUTION: If you hear any chafing or the running belt appears to be getting damaged, stop the running belt immediately by pressing the red STOP button. Contact Precor Customer Support. 8. If the belt needs additional alignment, repeat steps 1 through 7 until the belt is properly aligned. 9. After aligning the belt, press the STOP button and RESET. Turn OFF the treadmill. Tighten any loose fasteners or other components on the equipment. If you hear unusual noises or you feel that the treadmill is in need of repair or service, contact Precor Customer Support. Refer to Obtaining Service.
Finally, check if the power cord is loose, connect it again. a) See if the breaker of Home is tripped? b) See if the breaker of the Treadmill is tripped. If do the Belt is very Tighted! loose a little. Try again.
Thank you in advance, if you need assistance, you can contact me, Blessing. sincerely.

Will not move belt

Press the Stop and the Speed Up keys down while inserting the safety key.
Press the Stop key one time. The Time window should read EP:2P. Some newer models may also say FP, Pass, or the like. This means that it passes the EPROM test.
Press either incline key and the incline will calibrate automatically.
BE CAREFUL, THE TREADMILL WILL RUN AT FULL SPEED IN THIS NEXT MODE! DO NOT STAND ON THE WALKING BELT. Press the Speed Up key and hold it down until 85 is shown in the Distance window (some models may show the 85 number in another window).
If the top speed of the treadmill does not match the displayed speed on the computer console, adjust the max speed potentiometer (pot) on the motor control board. This is the board that the red and black motor wires connect directly into in the motor area. The Max Speed pot is clearly labeled. The max speed potentiometer is a small square with a mobile center and is located in one corner of the board and is labeled MAX SPD. It is near the harness that carries the speed signal labeled H,W,L. Using a small insulated screwdriver adjust this potentiometer clockwise to speed up and counter-clockwise to slow down the max speed of the treadmill. A tiny turn of this potentiometer will make a big difference in speed so be careful when making adjustments. It is not important to get the speed set exactly at the max speed of the treadmill but do make sure to get the speed within .2 MPH of the max speed of the treadmill. For instance if the max speed of the treadmill is 10 MPH, make sure to have the speed set between 9.8 MPH and 10.2 MPH. Some models have a 12 MPH top speed, so please check your manual if you aren’t sure. THIS IS A VERY IMPORTANT STEP BECAUSE YOU WILL GET AN ERROR MESSAGE IF THIS STEP IS SKIPPED. After completing calibration of the speed, press the Speed Down key. The treadmill will automatically return to 0 MPH. Please allow the unit to stop completely before continuing. Press the Stop key once and remove the safety key.
