Be sure stitch is in between the two fabrics when straight stitch. Adjust tension until stitch is between top and bottom fabric. Use different color top thread to make it easier to see. Once tension is correct sewing straight, switch to zigzag.

Remove hook race and bobbin. Clean area with vacuum.
Replace needle.
Try different thread and fabric.

A satin stitch is a combination of a wide zig-zag and a short stitch length. Set the stitch width to the maximum. Then while stitching, shorten the stitch length until the threads lay next to each other so no fabric shows between the threads but the threads do not overlap. It would help if you have a satin stitch foot so there is space under the presser foot for the extra threads.

use a couple of pieces of waste material the same as the sweat pants material and sew about an inch long
adjust the needle tension and do it again
repeat the exercise until the top and bottom thread joint at the middle of the two pieces of the material
tension settings on the machine are a loose guide as the thread thickness, material thickness and needle size all have a bearing in the tensions of the thread
so practice and adjust prior to sewing is the way to go

Check the bobbin tension too. It could be too tight. Make sure you are using the right size needle for the material as well. Sheer, thin fabric needs a smaller needle, thicker material requires bigger needles. Bobbin tension is the typical problem as most think to adjust the top tension but don't check the bobbin tension.

Is your quilt peices cotton? Cotton shouldn't cause as much trouble sewing along the edge but don't use too long of a stitch length else it will seem to gather up. Puckering side to side however is a tension problem usually. With sheerer fabrics that cause a problem sometimes you can put thin paper underneath, sew through both and then pull the paper off after sewing. (thin like the iron on type interfacing type fabric but like paper).

As a general rule of thumb, satin stitch is obtained by selecting zig-zag, turning stitch width up to 3 or 4 and stitch length to 0.5. If you have a clear plastic open toe sewing foot, put that on to help view the area.

If you are doing applique (attaching pieces of fabric to another surface) with a satin stitch, you may also need to use tear away stabiliser underneath or interface the fabric first, it depends on what/where you are doing the satin stitch onto.

And a nice machine embroidery thread will give you a much silkier appearance than plain thread.

It depends on a couple of things. Depending on the fabric you're using you might want to use a stabilizer like an iron on tear away. If the stitches are bunching the stitch length might be to tight. Try going to 0.3. if the stabilizer doesn't work. With the stabilizer on, it will keep the fabric firmer so it won't pucker. Make sure you have the decorative stitching foot on the machine with the little indentation for the satin stitch to ride in. If you have the wrong foot on, this will cause bunching too. I believe stitch 11 is a zig zag so you are probably decreasing the length to get a satin stitch. You will get a better satin stitch if you select it directly. I think that it is about 29. The machine forms the satin stitch differently than the zig zag and it should look better. If you still get loops on top, you may need to have a qualified technician check the needle to hook clearance. If this distance is too great, the machine skips stitches and you will form loops. Several other adjustments may be needed to get a perfect stitch and a qualified Husqvarna technician should be able to take care of this problem for you.
