I've troubleshot my beach ball of death problems, and narrowed it down to my Crucial 512GB m4 25 SATA SSD in my MacBook Pro running Mountain Lion. It was working terrific until last week, now it causes the beach ball, and never returns. All I can do is power off the machine and restart. Thanks!
Try a NRAM/PRAM/SMC reset.
The best thing is to get a copy of OSX 10.8 3, load it to a flash drive or burn to disk, then secure erase the SSD with the erase tool from Crucial, do a fresh install of OSX.
Then do a reset of these again, its the best way to get the system working with no problems.
That is a good SSD.
Just google NRAM/PRAM/SMC RESET and read how for your Macbook pro.
Then get a small external drive for backups, so you can secure erase the drive when needed.
Remember Apple turns off TRIM when its not one of their SSD's, so you need to give the drive time to use garbage collection.
You can Google TRIM enabler, but if you have any problems after installing it and turning it on, just turn it off.
I have no problems with it.
A new update for 10.8.3 is coming soon to public, beta 12D76 is working great.
