Check if interface at the back of printer is interchangeable to the type of port your computer will support it. Direct USB to USB or direct connection is recommended to avoid future issues.

Try to plug your phone to other USB port in your PC I will recommend to plug it at the USB port at the back of your CPU. USB supply of power at the back of the CPU is sufficient to make your device function properly so it may be able to detect by the system..mostly device can't recognize by the system because they didn't function properly specially if they are plugged in a USB port who don't have enough supply of power to make them work properly..Hope it may help you..
The 50 series errors have to do with the cleaning station on the right, any paper or foreign matter will stop them from functioning, also a mickey mouse spring loaded gear that likes to stick and give you that error.
You can plug a USB hub into the working USB port on the computer. The USB hub can have several ports so you can plug in several USB devices.
I suggest you get a powered USB hub because if all the devices that you plug into this hub exceeds 500mA then your computer's USB port will stop working because it could not supply enough current.
You will not need to plug in the power adapter into the hub if the device/s do not overload the computer's USB port.
