The main tub bearing is out on my bosch wfmc3200 uc/01. I am trying to replace myself but I have been unable to locate replacement parts. When I look online with Bosch the only way that they show replacing these bearing is if you replace the entire rear outer tub, that is going to run me $400. This machine is eight years old, if I am going to spend that much I will simply replace it, can anyone tell me what the replacement bearings are, or if it is even worth replacing them? I am positive that the inner bearing is toast, it is in pieces on my laundry room floor.

SOURCE: washing machine replacement door seal

It is held on by a spring that stretches around the outside of the seal. The seal simply hooks on to a small lip so all you need to do is start in one spot and push it down and away. Then just work it around like removing a bike tire until it is fully removed. Be careful of the spring. It is hooked together so it may unhook once some of the tension is removed and snap around.

SOURCE: installing carbon brushes on Bosch WFK 2401

Remove rear panel of washer.
Remove drive belt.
Unscrew the 2 bolts that hold motor to tub back.
Remove motor plug
Lever notor back with a screwdriver or similar, keeping a firm hold on motor.and remove motor
At the rear end of motor away from pulley you will see the brushes and the armature.
Remove brushes, and if there is less than 4 or 5mm of carbon left, then replace them.
Lightly clean the armature with emery cloth.
Refit in reverse order. Test.
Plz rate my solution.
Thanks.

Hi, it sounds like the bearings are going bad. Try spinning the drum with your hand while it is empty. It should spin nice and smooth. If the rotation feels a little rough and noisy, you might have a problem. You can double check by taking the drive belt off and try shaking the pulley. If there is "play" when shaking the pulley, the bearings are most likely toast. The inner stainless drum rides on two bearings which sit in the rear of the outer plastic drum. The whole plastic drum and bearings come as one piece and go for $150. It would cost about the price of a new maching to have someone come out and repair it for you. It sounds like kenmore has had a bearing problem which is pretty rediculous considering how much these things cost. Sears said, "those tend to go in a few years", which is criminal especially since the warrenty is usually conveniently exopired by the time this problem happens. If you are handy, have a spare day, and can remember how to put a washing machine back together, go for it. I did it and it was not a fun time. There is a lot of sharp metal edges in the machine so wear gloves.

Check the motor control board for dry joints, poor contact, signs of excessive heat around plugs/pins
I would try new brushes again or thoroughly inspect whether they are contacting the commutator.
I hope I have been of help but please do not hesitate to ask if you have any further questions.
I appreciate your vote if you appreciate my reply.

Hello,

Welcome to FixYa.

The pump for those WFMC washers is part # 436440 and priced around $75USD at "repairclinic.com" or "searspartsdirect.com" to name a couple.

I would caution you though before going ahead and buying the pump, you may not need it. It is too common that folks mis-diagnose Bosch machines due to lack of knowledge or lack of interest, I can't say.

Often it is merely an obstruction in the pump or a stuck check ball in the sump. I'd suggest you wait until you can check it over before purchasing any parts you can't return. For $100 I'd buy any bosch as long as it isn't something major worn, like the main tub bearing gone.

Hope this answers your question. Thank you for choosing FixYa and I hope you'll take a moment to rate the info I provided for you here. Good luck.

Regards,

Macmarkus :)

Hi Duane, welcome to FixYa.

While the price of $1000.00 sounds about right if hiring a pro, it is expensive. The parts alone you`d require are in the range of $675.00.

The outer rear tub assembly #W10250763 ( outer tub is in two pieces with the rear housing the bearing ) is listed at $315US @searspartsdirect.com.

The basket #W10250573 is listed at $365US also @searspartsdirect.com, and it would need to be replaced because it is supported by the rear bearing, hence the spindle of the basket will likely be scored/worn really bad.

Whether or not you can perform the repair is hard to say, but it is very involved and even an experienced tech like myself will require 60-90minutes to complete, and I know them inside and out.

I certainly feel for you since it is relatively new, but it certainly sounds like a worn bearing. Check out on-line vendors for price matching and places like "youtube" for how to videos.

Hope that answer`s your questiuon at the very least.

Good luck.

Maytag FAV6800AWW TL washer is throwing error code uC even when running empty cycle. It sounds like there may be a bearing going bad as it is more noisy than it should be when spinning. It stopped at 12...

Don,

I ask folks to give me some feedback when troubleshooting dC/uC errors with a feel for Wash Basket CCW/Spin direction drive system resistance.

It sounds like the Outer Tub Bearings are going which means you have a Tub Seal Leak that took them out. The Clutch One-Way Roller clutches are probably contaminated. I would bet a bit rusty and are sticking not locking up completely in Spin Cycle causing tumbler movement at the start of Spin Cycle. See my Clutch Fix post I go into a lot of detail for a fix and just what is causing the unbalance errors in Spin Cycle

You could drop the clutch out and see if you can clean up the bearings and relieve the dC/uC unbalance errors for a while longer.

Replacing the bearings is a bit more work see these post for what is involved. If your series is a 12 or above you may have to do as this forum member did.

Series 10 & 11 from what I have learned use the upper One-Way Roller Clutch bearing ring and not the integrated Lower Outer Tub bearing as in I believe the Series 12 and above do.

Series 10 Outer Tub Bearing work I and another forum member are working on. The links will give you some direction if you DIY. http://www.fixya.com/support/t4028403-just_replaced_new_clutch_fav9800aww

What are the first two digits of your Serial Number? Will be 10 through 17.

Outer Tub Bearing replacement is a job. What is the first to digits of your Serial Number it will be 10 through 17.

See these post for some insight into the job. It can be done others have done it and I’m in the process of performing it on a Series 10 (1st two digits of s/n) machine. I’m also replacing the bearings in the Spinner Assembly.
Here is some post to review for the work involved.

Squeeking and banging and LL display code

Run the machine through the cycles without anything in it. If it still does it, lift the top and look down between the basket and the tub for any objects that might have jumped out of the basket and into the space. Fish out anything that's in there. If there is nothing in that space, you need to either tighten or replace the snubber. It's a piece of rubber, held against the tub by a piece of metal. It keeps the tub from bouncing around.

Was washing ok until the last spin then it stop and uc lights are blinking what is uc?its does'tspinat all now

The "uc"code on the Neptune indicates a "continuous unbalanced circuit". Check to make sure that the weight of the clothing is distributed evenly in the tub. There can be a few causes for the generation of this code and you might want to consult an appliance technician for assistance. Bad shocks can cause this by permitting the tub to be out of balance, but you didn't describe any banging, etc. The tub displacement sensor could be at fault. The pump and pressure switch should also be checked for proper operation and to make sure there is no obstructions in those components. Really sorry for your trouble and I hope this helped. Best wishes.

Problems spinning

If it’s a FAV6800AW or FAV8900AW and you want to DIY a fix take a look at this post and see if you or someone you know has some very basic mechanical skills and can do a clutch replacement or roller clutch bearing re-lube. The dc/UC unbalance errors are a very common failure issue with the FAV6800AW/FAV9800AW clutch.

I have put together a step by step process to perform a clutch replacement process, this repair will get your $1000 machine back in service with a $50 dollar clutch replacement. Worse case you can give the repair person some facts and maybe control cost and speed to repair. I believe you will find you will pay $300 - $400 to have it repaired.

If you pay more than $50 dollars for the clutch you are throwing money away. Clothes Washer Clutch - 25001169
You can try this test just to rule out the TDS as the failure point almost all the time dc/UC unbalance errors are related to clutch issues with this machine model.
Tub Displacement Sensor Diagnostics check.
It is possible the Tub Displacement Sensor may have failed try this check which is in the Troubleshooting guide stored in your washer console or refer to the SM.
Enter the Service Mode by pressing and holding the Enviro Plus and Spin Only keys for three seconds or the display reads “00”

Press the Super Wash key display reads “in”…something like that.

Press Delicates the Display will show “UC” (Unbalance Closed).

Push tub to the back right corner of the machine the display should change to “UO” (Unbalance open). Release tub and the display will show “UC” (Unbalance Closed).

Press Hand Wash.

Pull tub to the front left corner while pushing the tub down the display should change to “UO” (Unbalance open). If you get these results your Tub Displacement sensor should be OK and I believe it’s not the component failure producing dc/UC errors in spin cycle. I would remove the clutch for inspection and re-lube. There is a more technical troubleshooting method to check Tub Displacement Sensor in the Troubleshooting guide and Service manual.
We can turn on the drain pump in Service Mode to pump out excess water, let me know if you need help with that. The link I have in this post will send you to the Service Manual on this site in PDF format .

I believe a lot of folks toss this $1K machine when a $50 dollar clutch replacement or an even cheaper a Oneway roller clutch bearing clean up (if the bearings are rust free) will get the machine back in service.
Post back if you decide to DIY the fix and need help.

Good luck… Rich
