There's a problem with the motherboard.

I would say try a bios update, but I believe it requires both battery and power adapter to be present before it will flash the rom.

The above probably won't work but it's always good to try the easy stuff first.

More than likely you'll just have to replace the board.

If you have any more questions, feel free to ask.

Make sure that there is a green light on the ac adapter. Try checking the end of the cable of the ac adapter and see if it is damaged ( the metal piece that connects into the laptop ). Also check the port on the laptop where you connect the cable of the ac adapter. If that is damaged then you have to request replacment of the motherboard if your laptop is still in warranty.

Sounds like your taxing your system too hard. Perhaps you need to purchase a beefy-er CPU, graphics card, or cooling fan.

Dell Vostro 230 shuts down randomly?

Are the fan and vents free of dust? Is the CPU fan clean? Working? In power settings is it set for High Performance? Try SpeedFan, I'm not sure it will work with your processor but you can try: http://www.filehippo.com/download_speedfan/
. It's FREEware. You can adjust your fans to max. see if that helps your problem. Maybe the PSU is going bad.

I have purchased a Vostro 230 desktop and like all my other PCs I want to keep it powered on 24/7 but randomly it powers off!

If you are running windows:

Click on START
Then SETTINGS
Then go to CONTROL PANEL.
Then POWER OPTIONS.

In the POWER OPTIONS screen you will see the timeout values for your display, hard disk, and standby.

Set them all to NEVER if that's what you want.

Then hit APPLY.
Then OK.

That should be it.
Good luck and please post back if this helps.

Randomly shuts down. Dell Inspiron 1000 with battery removed it will usually get past login and stay up for a while all hibernation options have been turned off.

check that it is not heated up Scanning computer to eliminate malwares, spywares and the viruses from your laptop.
2- Repairing and cleaning Windows registry.
These two tips are found to be very helpful to fix the laptop shutdown problem. Almost all the computer users surf internet which could result in viruses attacking your system. Some of these infections are really pesky and cause the machines to shutdown randomly.
The registry errors, however, are the internal errors and can become a cause of system crashes and freezes. The registry keys shall be in good health to keep a system perfect.
When I noticed my laptop keeps shutting down everytime, I tested the Intel Software Partner, RegInOut to fix the random shutdown problem with my laptop.

Computer randomly shuts off

Random shut downs can be caused by registry conflicts, thermal issues, malware and viruses. First thing I would do is get a can of compressed air and blow the cooling vents out to make sure the cooling fins are clear of dirt and debris, then I would go to www.filehippo.com and download MalwareBytes Malware remover, it can be found center of page under spyware. Install and run, perform a QUICK scan and remove anything it finds. Once that is completed, perform a complete scan with AVG and make sure it is updated. Then go to www.filehippo.com and download Ccleaner, this little program will clean out the ****, make sure to do the registry clean and do it three times in a row to make sure everything gets cleaned out. It automatically makes a restore point so don't worry about backing up anything, just delete what it tells you. Good luck

Random shut downs.

Random shutdowns are normally caused by your computer overheating. The CPU has a protect mechanism that automatically shuts down when it reaches a certain temp so it does not damage the CPU. If you are computer savvy you can download a program called HWinfo or check your BIOS for CPU temperature readings as it runs..otherwise take it to a technician, however, as I always recommend have the technician show you the increased tempature before agreeing to any hardware fixes..if you have any questions let me know. Pls rate this solution.
