Unplug, cut hair on rollers and pull to clean. Remove dust bag and use a bent hanger to pull out the clog from the intake tube, most likely there is paper caught in the hair.

Look to see if the belt broke or belt slip off most of the time is something wrong with the belt. If you change the belt of fix the belt that is the time you clean the brush.
We had a problem with ours, it kept telling us the filter needed cleaning, though it had just been done and was actually fine. It would sound a high pitched alarm and "freak out" on us.
We found using a shop vac and cleaning it out all (while unplugged, of course) inside where there are intakes and general insides was greatly helpful. It was making a crackling noise as well, quite often.

But, this one problem had us stumped. Do try to use a powerful vacuum and really get inside. We have cats and apparently cat hair as well as household dust was clogging it. You obviously need to do more than clean the filters, themselves, from time to time.
Hey there! The brushes can be removed for cleaning. With the handle in the upright position, tilt the cleaner back so that handle rests on floor. Grab brush assembly and pull firmly. Remove hair and debris from brushes. You may clean the brushes under running water. If for some reason you are not able to clean the brushes, replacement brushes can be ordered by following the link below.
A common problem with roller/beaters is hair caught in the bearings on the ends of the roller. The roller is removable and requires regular cleaning or the belt will be destroyed.
with power off remove back .remove plates gently due to very delicate check for cracks in glass and gently clean with soap and water dry with hair dryer and reinstall.

The Classic XL-15 should have 2 individual indicator lights. The 'red' light is the ionizer indicator, and the 'green' light is the ozone level indicator. Both lights should be illuminated, if the unit is operating properly. The red light should be pulsing, and the green light should be dimly lit, and brightened as the output knob is turned up - indicating a higher ozone production. If the green light is not lit, you likely won't smell the ozone. The first thing you should try, is cleaning the filter and glass ozone plate. Unplug the unit and remove the rear air filter. Clean the filter with clean water and allow to COMPLETELY air dry. Removed the glass plate by depressing the lever behind the glass plate, and gently pulling it out. Clean the glass with a half water, half ammonia (or distilled white vinegar, if ammonia not available) and an old toothbrush to clean between the mesh. Dry plate with a hair dryer and re-place plate into unit. Replace dried air filter, making sure the little tab on the bottom is secured into the interlock. Power the unit on and you should see the indicator lights and smell the fresh ozone!
MAKE SURE THAT YOUR CELL(S) ARE CLEAN ... CLOSELY INSPECT TO SEE THAT THERE ARE NO BROKEN IONIZING WIRES (THE SMAAL STAINLESS-STEEL WIRES THAT ARE BETWEEN THE COLLECTOR PLATES).
MAKE SURE POWER GOING INTO UNIT TO IS "OFF"!!!
... NOT JUST THE SWITCH ON THE UNIT. THEN TRY THE FOLLOWING:
THIS AIR-CLEANER THAS A AIR-FLOW SENSOR THAT SOMETIMES GETS CLOGGED ... IT IS INSIDE THE TOP CONTROL PANEL. THERE SHOULD BE A DIAGRAM UNDER THE CONTROL BOX COVER PLATE TO ASSIST YOU LOCATING THAT SENSOR. MAKE SURE IT IS CLEAN.
THE HIGH-VOLTAGE TRANSFORMER BEING BAD USEUALLY WILL SMELL LIKE BURNT WIRING. AND WILL LOOK BURNT. MAKE SURE YOU SEE NO LOSE WIRES ... SOME TIMES THE SPARK-PLUG LOOKING WIRE GOING TO THE CELL(S) CAN BURN OFF ITS CONNECTOR.
YOU CAN CHECK THE DOOR SAFETY SWITCH TO MAKE SURE IT IS MAKING CONTACT WHEN HANDLE IS PROPERLY CLOSED.

MAKE SURE YOU SEE NOTHING (HAIR?) LYING ACROSS THE PLATES OR IOMIZING WIRES ON EACH CELL IF YOURS HAS TWO.
ELECTRIC AIR CLEANERS ARE ONLY GOOD WHEN THEY ARE KEPT CLEAN ... PET HAIR IS A CONSTANT MAITENCE PROBLEM AND CELLS SHOULD BE LEANED EVERY TWO WEEKS. FOR BEST PERFOMANCE.
