You will need to use another computer and download Kaspersky rescue disk. After downloading the disk image burn it to a cd and boot the machine with this disk. Run the rescue disk and it will detect the infected files. When the program if finished select remove all infected files and reboot your computer. You also need to either install a good antivirus program or update the one you have to protect against this type of infection. The Kaspersky rescue disk can be downloaded from their site here: https://support.kaspersky.com/viruses/rescuedisk
Download a copy of the AVG Rescue CD (ISO image file or USB image) and burn this to a blank CD (or USB stick) then use this to boot the computer with the virus.
Run the AVG virus scanner and let it remove all detected virus activity.
Start it up in Safe Mode by pressing F8 as it boots up. Normally that will repair the corrupt file. When fully loaded press start and close the laptop.
if you have a second pc you can find a OS disc image by looking on google like typing windows xp home ISO download and when you download the image you will need a cd burner and a image program like IMG burn to burn the iso to a CDR

You can now easily backup your important data to a USB external Hard drive or to a Network location or do a rescue or even do a repair, or take the drive image too.
The partition that had the Lenovo image was on the old hard drive not the new one you purchased, so you will not be able to restore from image. Look on the bottom of the laptop for the Windows version. Is it Windows XP Home or Windows XP Pro? You will need a Microsoft Windows disk to reinstall and you can use the serial number on the sticker to activate. This is all legal because the serial number belongs to the laptop. Unfortunately, finding a Windows software might be difficult. Ask a friend if they have a disk of the same operating system.
Might be easier to take to a tech and pay $60.00 (I wouldn't pay nmore than that) and have them reinstall basic windows and drivers for you.
You can download trial versions of these programs, and test to see ifthe program can find your images, but have to pay to register thesoftware before it will actually recover the images.
You may also need to use a card reader to read the data from the card, rather than read the card while it's in the camera connected to your computer. Card readers are relatively inexpensive (less than $20) and can be bought at most camera and computer stores.
