Garage frig Is there anywa to modify a frost free freigerator for the garage to operate below 40--I know there is a "garage kit" out there but it apparently works only to like around 40 degrees fareinheit---my attached garage is uninsulated a gets much colder than 40---any ideas??? THanks
The garage kit, if even available for your unit, works pretty well, but your right in extreme colds your outta luck, other then buying a refrig designed to work in garage, yoll need to either insualte and heat garage, or wait till spring sorry.

if it is a frost free the temp will vary room temp and the warm food you put in will affect it or the electronic controler is not operating properly frost free also defrosts its self in a 24 hr time frame this will affect the flux temp
If the ambient temp is below 52 degrees the unit will not work properly throught the cycles you will need to get what is call a garage kit to install in the unit.
Temperatures should not go below 40°F or hotter than 100°F for proper operation. If temperatures are lower than 40°F your thermostat may not allow the product to turn on based on colder than normal temperatures. The warmer the ambient temperature is (above 100°F) the more the product will run, and it will be less efficient.
Well there a couple things you can check. Pull away from wall and remove the lower cover over the compressor. Either the compressor is stopping on and off too much or the evaporator fan or the condenser fan is stopping while you do not know it. Tell me how hot the top of compressor is. We may have a bad motor starter and start capacitor along with overload. Let me know what you find and I may very well get you going again, Sea Breeze
cleaning the condensor is nothing to do with evaporator freezing up. keep an eye on it - you may have a problem with the defrost cycle. problem can also happen if freezer door has been left open
CAN'T BE DONE AS THE FRIG WORKS OFF THE FREEZER,THE FREEZER MAKES ALL THE COLD AIR FOR FOR FRIG.IF IT'S NOT FROST FREE JUST TURN THE THERMOSTAT OFF TILL FREEZER IS DEFROSTED,IF FROST FREE YOU SHOULD'NT HAVE TO DO ANYTHING,HOPE THIS HELPS-MIKE
