Hi, noob here: I just got this Akai MPK Mini used from a friend. When I first plugged it into my computer, a bubble popped up saying that it was installing driver updates or something like that and then said the device is ready to use. But whenever I open the MPK editing software, OR ProTools, OR Reason, neither program recognizes the device. Most of all, my computer doesn't show the device in My Computer. I think there might be something wrong with the drivers (for either the device or my laptop), and I've checked around the internet for solutions and have installed the stuff on the manufacturer's website... all to no avail. I can't get a single note out of the keyboard... nothing at all. I've tried a million button combinations, unplugging and replugging in the USB (haha), and restarting my computer. If anyone could shed some light onto the problem, I'd really appreciate it. Thanks.

Your machines are different and likely have different interface chipsets. Some newer machines have more built in plug-n-play than others. There is so much incompatibility that it is a wonder that any of the stuff works together. You need to install the needed driver... NOTE: there is a lot of incompatibility between OS versions... so if for instance you are using XP on one machine and Vista or Windows 7 on the other there are a LOT of incompatibilities. ALWAYS check the requirements for the computer with the specs of the device to be connected. MOST of the problems are due to OS variations. Check for driver updates on the Sony site
