SOURCE: Kenmore Side by Side Refrigerator Ice Maker Not Working

A couple things to check here. First see if there is ice in the tray. If so chances are the ice maker will need to be replaced however these are very reliable ice makers. If no ice in the tray pull up on the ejector blade (don't worry you won't break it) turn clockwise to start the ice maker thru a cycle. The ejector blade is the long white bar with fingers on it that run the length of the tray. Once it completes a cycle it should fill with water. If no water then either the fill tube is frozen over and will need to be defrosted or the water valve is bad.

SOURCE: kenmore ref. water dispenser lock turns on itself & beeps

Behind the dispenser housing in the door is a small control board. It is messed up....could be from water getting on it or a voltage spike during a storm....but that is what controls your dispenser.

SOURCE: We have a Kenmore refrigerator

Hi!!
Check to see whether the ice maker has been turned off. Here's how to check. Look for a wire along the right side of the ice maker that looks a bit like a coat hanger. If this wire is in the raised position, the ice maker is turned off. On some units you simply lower the wire to the down position to turn the ice maker on. On others, you lower a small red plastic lever to lower the wire. If the wire is in the proper position check the freezer temperature, it should be between 0-8 degrees Fahranheit. If it is warmer than 10-12 degrees, the ice maker may not produce any ice. Check your door seals and thermostat, repair/replace as necessary.

No water coming out of the dispenser

Hello there and welcome to fixya
Dispenser Does Not Operate
  • 1 Ensure that the water supply line is installed according to the manufacturer's directions. Turn the water supply shutoff valve counter-clockwise to fully open it.
  • 2 Replace the water filter or remove the filter and install the plug. A clogged filter will prevent the water dispenser from functioning properly.
  • 3 Place a large container under the water dispenser. Press and hold the dispenser lever for at least two minutes to remove air in the water system.
Does Not Dispense Water
  • 1 Inspect the supply line and shutoff valve for clogs. Call a plumber to remove clogs in the line or shutoff valve.
  • 2 Replace the water filter cartridge or remove the filter and install the plug.
  • 3 Ensure that the filter cartridge is installed properly. Remove it and reinstall the filter cartridge. The cartridge will lock into place when installed correctly.

By mistake, when removing the water to replace it, I turned the cap and it came off. realizing my mistake I replaced the cap, pressed the button and tried to pull it straight out per the instructions on...

the directions state To change the filter you would 1.) remove the cartridge cap (counterclockwise to a vertical position) and pull the filter out through the base grille. Directions state there will be water in the cartridge so some spilling may occur. 2.) remove the cartridge cap by sliding it off the end of the old cartridge. The cap will slide to the left or right. Do not discard the cap. 3.) Take the new cartridge out of the package and remove protective cover from O-rings. 4.) Slide the cartridge cap onto the new cartridge. 5.) With cartridge cap in the vertical position, push the new filter cartridge into the base grille until it stops. Rotate the cartridge cap clockwise to a horizontal position. Its the first part of doing this thats a real pain but after you get by the first instructions the replacement becomes easy if you have any further questions message me back Thanks again Rick

Water won't flow, water line clear and has water running thru it....

Then you have to replace the water filter of the refrigerator. It is having some blockage that is why water is not flowing in it.
Filters situated in the interior liner of the refrigerator compartment of samsung-built side-by-side refrigerators are relatively simple to replace. Follow these steps:
  1. Remove the old filter by grasping it and slowly making a one quarter turn to the left.
  2. Pull down gently on the filter to remove it from the mounting bracket assembly. Be careful to not tip the filter, as water may spill out of it.
  3. Discard used filter.
  4. Remove the new filter from its packaging. Apply the appropriate month sticker to the filter to remind yourself to change it again in six months' time.
  5. Fill the filter with water from the tap, and then line the arrow on the filter up with the arrow on the cartridge holder inside your refrigerator.
  6. The filter automatically pulls itself into position as you turn the filter to the right and lock it in place. Be careful to not over tighten the filter into position.
  7. Run water through your dispenser for about three minutes to clear the system. Keep in mind that a newly installed water filter could initially cause water to spurt from the dispenser.
Water by Culligan filter cartridges need to have a water filter adapter installed. This is a one time installment, and once you have this adapter installed, it stays in the refrigerator for all future filter replacements. If your refrigerator already has this adapter in place, do not remove it to replace the filter.
Smart Water filter cartridges do not require the use of the water filter adapter. If for some reason your refrigerator has an adapter in place already, you will have to remove it before installing a Smart Water filter cartridge. The adapter is removed in the same manner as the filter itself: with a gentle quarter turn to the left.
Note: Replacing this type of filter is a quick process - there is no need to unplug your refrigerator when replacing it. Also, this filter should be replaced every six months.
Hope this was helpful to you. Thank you for using fixya.

Kenmore refrigerator-model#59582998 serial#514037483 I would like to operate my refrigerator without a filter due to the taste of the water by using filters. Is it permissable to remove the filter and not...

I would suggest , home depot , or , a hardware store , which supplys a filter , with replaceable cartridges . Usually runs about $ 50.00 . This filter , will mount to the wall , and not the appliance itself . If you " bypass " the filter , it may stop the dispensor flow , and / or , the ice maker water flow .
With the new filter , you can use , calcium filter , charcoal filter , or calcium filter replacements . Even lime , I believe , is available .
As far as removing the filter , I suggest , trying , to see if the water / ice maker still works , after removing .

Stomach pain drinking from refrigerator water dispenser

Get a charcoal filter from home depot (about 50.00) and install behind refrig or in cabinet . Filter has replaceable cartridges like for charcoal , lime , calcium . Installs in supply line to refridg . Do not recommend the 11.00 filter installed in line , where you replace the whole filter . Get the replaceable cartridge type .

Kenmore Fridge - Bad Testing Water

Your refrigerator definitely has a water filter. If you have gone 5 years without replacing the filter, you and your family have probably been drinking contaminated water, for some time. Water filters should be replaced every three to six months. On some refrigerators, and in cases of higher water consumption, the filter must be changed every 60 days. Sears sells replacement filter cartridges for Kenmore refrigerators.

The water filter on your refrigerator is located at the front base of the unit, in the grille, below the freezer door. There, you will see a round cap. Turn the cap counter-clockwise, until the handle is vertical. Then, pull it out of the grille. The filter cartridge is attached to the cap. After removing the cap and filter, slide the cap off from the existing filter cartridge. Slide the cap on to a new cartridge, and re-insert with the cap handle in a vertical position. Push it in, firmly. Then, turn the cap clockwise, until the cap handle is horizontal.
