No picture. The unit has been working fine for the last two years trouble free and the other day we turned it on and it was fine then a couple of hours later the picture was gone. The sound works fine and I unplugged it for about 5 minutes to try and reset but still No picture.

Akai Plasma 40' TV does not show a picture anymore. We were watching a movie and then all of a sudden, the screen went blank. The powersource was still ON but there was no picture. I could not however, turn the power source off until I unplugged it from the wall. I have had the TV for only 18 mos and am wondering if there is a fuse or something that blew and I could have a part replaced or if it is really unrepairable and I should just throw out the TV?

Repaired one of these with the same symptoms about two weeks ago. My guess is that the SMPS has failed. In laymen's terms the power supply, Samsung p/n#Bn96-00249a and you should be able to purchase it at Vance Baldwin http://www.vancebaldwin.com/ and just sign in as a guest, select parts# and input the number above (no dashes). Be seated when you do they're a bit spendy - - about $270.00 dollars plus shipping and a $50.00 core... You get that back when you send them the old one.. After you get the back off the PS is located in the middle of the unit at the top of the screen. If you need the service manual to help just let me know. It's actually an easy plug and play repair... Good Luck Bill [email protected]

Hi Bill, I have a AKAI PDP4294 that has the same problem as Morfias reported. No picture, but I do have sound. I went to the Vancebaldwin website and entered p/n BN96-00249A. I get two results from this search. One for AKAI and one for Samsung. Akai BN96-00249A (Psp P-smps Assembly) Samsung BN96-00249A (Assy Pdp P-smps) The AKAI part is $572.25, weighs 9 lbs, with no core charge. The Samsung part is $261.82, weighs 1 lb, with a $50 core charge. There is no picture for either part, but based off the weight listed for each item, I'm assuming they are different parts. Which part do I need? I'm obviously hoping I need the Samsung part :)

If the induction motor ain't going I would look for a blown 3 amp (purple) fuse on the control board. If that was good I would check if any of the roll out switches were tripped. If a rollout switch was tripped check or air restrictions somewhere.

Red and Yellow blurred picture

I had the same problem this week. I tried the convergence thing but it was impossible to fix. I still needed the repairman. He changed two convergence units ($325, parts and labor). Then the tv was still doing the same thing. We had to adjust the convergence and now everything is perfect. You will need your converter

Akai Plasma TV's screen suddenly went blank -model PDP4294

Same thing for me. TV just turned off one day and won't come back on. LED flashes red. Someone said it's because a cooling fan went out. If I can't find someone to fix it I'll take it apart and tinker myself. 32" with dvd built in was barely over a year old.
