Dish network 322

We have a dish network 322 rec. box that has been replaced once. You can watch one TV at a time but you can't watch both at the same time. The one that does not work says acquiring satellite signal. The old box did the same thing and was replaced. This one worked fine for awhile but it started messing up.
Does anybody know what it could be? Are the 322 boxes that bad?
I have electronics exp. so if anyone can help please let me know what it could be.

Wow. I KNOW that the guys didn't ground this stuff and they told me when they put it is because they said that it turns it into a lightning rod. Is it really dangerous?

Hello,

What you have is not too uncommon. It may take a bit to explain, though.
I would bet that you have at least one more Dish box in the house. I know this because that box is the one that is (more or less) causing the problem.
First things first: Go out to where the cables come from the dish and go into the house. You should find a ground wire that goes from the ground block to your power meter box. It should be a fairly heavy gauge, and it should be green. It is attached to a shiny ground block that should have cables attached to either side of it (or splits the cable in two to pass through it). If you do not see anything like this, you might want to look in your attic or crawl space.
If you still have not found it, then whoever installed your system is in direct violation of NEC, and is causing your equipment to mess up. Call the istallers and demand to have this potentially dangerous situation taken care of.
The Alpha box (the one in the house that does not mess up) is causing the 322 to lose its command of the dish LNB (the eye of the dish). This happens because there are stray voltages flying up and down the cable at frequencies that match the ones being utilized by the boxes, and since the system is not grounded (or grounded improperly), these stray voltages have no place to go.

This is the quick and dirty version of whats happening. The LNB might have to be changed due to damage from switching so fast for so long.

Hope this helps you...

The dish cut out today. the satalite took hours to reset now it is on a dish infomerciall channel and our remote is not able to turn channes but still functions with the tv. we have an old box style...

Hey Ryno4606,

It is possible, while rare, for a remote to no longer be programmed to the receiver after a reset. To fix that a simple readdress should fix the problem. I have provided the steps below to assist you with that!

Addressing Remote to Receiver:

1.) Go to System Info screen.
2.) Hold down the SAT button until all mode lights light up.
3.) Enter a number between 1 and 15 using the numeric keypad on the remote.
4.) Press the pound (#) button.
5.) Once the SAT button blinks three times, press record.
6.) Test remote and see if works.

Let me know if you have any other questions!

starstruck32,

I do hope this has been fixed for you by now starstruck32, but if not there definitely may be a bigger problem we would need to have a technician go out and check. What I would like you to do is go to Menu -> System Setup -> Installation -> Point Dish -> Check Switch -> Test. You can let me know here what it shows.

If only one satellite signal is still being recognized we would have to have a technician go out, if you could send me an email at [email protected] and I would be happy to assist you further with that!

I have a total of two standard tv's currently connected to my Dish receiver box 322. I would like to upgrade my main tv to a LCD tv. Can I still keep the 322 receiver or will I need to upgrade to a HD...

Hello, this is Nick Franta with DISH Network Customer Support.

You can still keep the 322 receiver with your new LCD tv. An HD receiver upgrade would be beneifical as well to make sure you maintain the best picture quality.

I am getting black borders top & bottom on some channels and side to side as well on Fox on my Dish Net receiver 322 to analog TV.

Hey there! Becki Barned from Dish Network customer service here. The black borders are usually caused by watching standard definition programming on a high definition television. Try to change the format on your tv. Either by pressing the * button below the 7, or trying a format or display button on the original tv remote. Hope this helps!!!

We have a black screen with no audio. We are able to pull up the guide, but we can't watch tv or anything recorded on the DVR. How do we fix it?

No fatal error, try this. If you would, please unplug the receiver from the power outlet for about 2 minutes. After 2 minutes, plug it back in and let me know when it comes on (it will do this by itself). Once it does, it should be showing Message 015, “Acquiring Satellite Signal”.
