My HP6180 when asked to Print, the Print page under "Photosmart C6100 Series" has notation "Error-offline Documents: 29 "and in the middle of the Print page beside"Status" is "Error-Offline"How do I clear this "Offline" status?
I found out that the IP address on the printer was different from the IP address that was available when the printer was first installed. After spending days trying to fix this, it was resolved in less than two minutes.
Go to the Printer Folder in the control panal and choose to Add a Printer. You will see the option to add the new printer ( wireless). Chose to install, and it will install the printer under the new IP address. It worked instantaneoulsy.
You also need to make sure the IP address is inputted into the printer ( check your guide for how to input the IP address)
What I dont know how to do is to keep the IP address static. Afger, it is not practical to do this each time it changes. If only the last digit changes, it may be as easy as switching to the printer available under the current IP address.

New and BETTER solution...posted in another thread as well...
My first solotution was to reinstall the printer as a new printer. But that is uncessary. The fix is as easy as changing the IP address the in Port.
The problem is the the IP address for your wirelss is not static. and when it changes, the printer does not recognize the new IP address. When this occurs. go the the printer folder ( in the control panel) and click on 'add new priter'. Then select 'add a network wirless printer . NO NEED TO INSTALL THE PRINTER...you just want to see the IP address.
Note the IP address.
GO to the printer, click on the right mouse and select 'properties'
Click on Port
You will see the current port already highlighted.
Click on ' configure port' and change the IP address under "printer name or IP address.
Click OK.
Problem solved
Good luck.

1.Right click on MY computer ->Properties->Hardware->Device manager.
2.You will get Device manager window popping out.
3.Scroll down to "Universal Serial BUS controllers".Click on the (+) sign.
4.Check for the "USB Composite Device" and right click on it, click Uninstall.(IMPORTANT NOTE:wE HAVE TO UNINSTALL THE PRINTER'S USB COMPOSITE DEVICE, TO KNOW WHETHER IS THE PRINTER'S USB COMPOSITE DEVICE, RIGHT CLICK ON USB COMPOSITE DEVICE AND PROPERTIES,look for what location says, Eg -LOCATION : HP photosmart C6100
5.Disconnect the USB and reboot the PC.
6.Connect the USB after reboot, you will get popup "Found new hardware".Then the Drivers will be installed Automatically.

Response to "right click the printer and choose Use Printer Online-- When I right clicked my choices were Menu Bar, Links, Status Bar, Google, Ask toolbar, Lock the Toolbars, Use Large Icons, and
Customize Command Bar, but NO "Use Printer Online" .
I have a wireless 802.11g setup connecting my printer, computer and Linksys router with Comcast cable, rather than a wired USB
connection. Any suggestions on how this might correct the problem? Appreciate your efforts as this is a frustrating situation
for a novice computer user (at age 81!).
I uninstalled and reinstalled and that solved the problem - Status
shows "Ready" and Test Page confirmed successful
reinstallation
Much thanks for suggestions and help.
Hi riz, I have the same issue with my all in on hp 6180 but my printer is networked and I connect to it wirelessly. Will I need to do something differently than doing the uninstall on the usb since I do not use the usb?
Hope you can help with this!!
Normandy, Do you always connect with the USB or do you have the option to try wireless? Did this solution work for you?
Thanks,
Ang
I'm having the same problem. Connected wirelessly through a Linksys N router. I've been successful with the unistall. but I think this is an issue with the vista driver. Becuase my PC's that are running XP don't have the same issue.I have a C6183
Go to Control Panel>Printers and Faxes. If you don['t see it on the right, choose Control Panel and you'll find it there. Look for your printer there and try the same thing. It sounds like you were in the wrong area. Also let me know if the printer actually DOES show up in the Printers and Faxes window.
Try this.. right click the printer and choose Use Printer Online. Let me know if it shows Ready after that.
