The Lexmark x7170 should let you continue printing with the ink cartridge regardless of the estimated ink with most cartridges. The only exception to this is if the cartridges are part of Lexmark's returns programme. I would advise removing the cartridge and checking for small text stating "Return Programme Cartridge" on the label. If this is present sadly there is no way of continuing, apart from buying a new cartridge.

With regards to the low ink estimate, am I right in assuming you are using a refilled or remanufactured ink cartridge? If so this is unavoidable but should not prevent you from printing until the ink physically runs out.

SOURCE: Printer doesn't print even with new ink cartridges.

Take out the Cartridge & get a new one if the problem persists then get the printer software reinstalled & if still it is not printing then clean up the cartridge head with cotton swabs dipped in hot water!
This should clean the head & black will be on paper

DO THIS AS FINAL REFUGE
If still its not working then there's some problem in the copper contact surface in the printer on the cradle so get a new Printer.

SOURCE: Printer doesn't print even with new ink cartridges.

turn the printer i turned on and Press the cleaning button ,. Cleaning takes about two minutes, the printer makes some noise when it finishes you run a nozzle check for print quality and reset the cleaning cycle.
load paper . go to the printer menu as follows: click Control Panel, and then double-click Printers. Select the Epson printer if have more than one printer is installed. Click File, click Properties, click the Utility tab, then click the Nozzle Check icon.
The printer will print a Nozzle Check pattern in black, and in cyan, magenta, and yellow. Each staggered horizontal and straight vertical line should be complete, with no gaps in the dot pattern. If any dots are missing, clean the head again.

If your software is different, and does not have these options, you can do it this way:

1. Same as above.

2. Same as above.

Turn off printer and computer. Disconnect interface cable from printer. Load paper. Hold down the load/eject button and press the power button to turn on the printer. Release both buttons.

3 Same as above.

4 Turn off printer and reconnect the interface

SOURCE: lexmark x1270 poor printing

Try these steps after these if you face the same problem then you need to get the cart exchanged as it may be defective as Lexmark cart comes with 6 months warranty ...

# Hold the cartridge upside down, with the bar-code label facing you and take a damp paper towel.
# Use the towel to wipe the printhead of the cartridge on the bottom (where the ink comes out). Wipe the printhead horizontally in one direction only (left to right).
# Continue doing this until it looks clean.
# Then dab the cartridge on the towel to make sure the ink is flowing.
# Next, look inside the printer and locate the carrier that holds ink cartridges. Caution: Make sure the cartridges are not installed at this point.

1. Look for a shiny piece of metal underneath the contacts at the back of the carrier.
2. Take a damp cotton swab (use water only!) and wipe along the bottom of the shiny metal piece. Note: You may need more than one swab.

# Reinstall the cartridges, making sure you snap them correctly into the printer.

SOURCE: I have a Lexmark x7170.

Some older print cartridges are not compatible even if your model is listed on label. I'm talking a few years difference. The printer knows this and that is what the error is telling you. Make sure you have the right number in the right slot.

Lexmark 730 not printing

Regarding the Lex1 cartridge's no printing/severe fade (or similar) during printing, my answers are provided below:

For the poor print quality problem (degraded image quality) you are observing, we suggest you first visit the "Print Quality" page of the "General Information" section of the Inkjet 411 website and follow the suggestions provided: http://inkjet411.com/?page_id=1432

A. 1. Cartridge & Printer maintenance should also be evaluated - ensure both ink cartridges and flexible driver contact cables (where the cartridge interfaces to the carriage inside the printer) are thoroughly clean: http://inkjet411.com/?page_id=1519

A.2. Perform a hot-water flush on the suspect ink cartridge, refer to video procedure here: http://inkjet411.com/?page_id=1519

A.3. Run a quick test print to evaluate cartridge performance (i.e. 4-color test print):
http://inkjet411.com/?page_id=146

My lexmark x3470 wont recognise compatible ink Cartridges any know of a way round this

If the ink cartridges you purchased are not Lexmark - that could be the problem. I used to have a Lexmark printer and I did the same thing - I purchased ink cartridges that were compatible but not Lexmark brand. Everything seemed fine until I tried to print and then I would get the same error sign and low ink message and it would not print. I kept thinking I was doing something else wrong and tried everything. In the end I broke down and got ink cartridges from Lexmark and that solved the problem. Now I have a Brother printer and I never buy anything other than Brother ink cartridges because I'm always afraid of that same thing happening again. I wish I knew which printers WOULD accept those non name brand ink cartridges, but thus far I do not know of any printers that do. Hope this helps you.

Put brand new lexmark 28 cartridge just 4 days ago. Maybe used 10 times. Computer says ink is low and won't print anymore. However, can still make copies.

It could be just a slight communication failure between your cartridges and the printer. Try to re-seat the cartridges by removing and re-inserting them into the cartridge carrier.
I hope this helps.

Hey, I have the X7170 printer and haven't used it for about a year. Now, the fax, and scan works fine, but when I print a paper, it comes out blank even if the ink catridge is full. Seems that there is...

A technique to improve print quality is to try and clean the cartridge nozzles. You may clean the cartridge by following the steps given below:
1. Go to the "Lexmark solution center." This can be done by clicking on "Start," go to "Programs" and Lexmark printer group. Click on the "Lexmark Solution center." Next click on the "Maintenance" Tab.
2. Select "Clean and Fix Horizontal streaks." Click on "Print". This will produce a printed page.
The colors that you should see here are black, yellow, magenta (a reddish purple) and cyan (a dark sky blue). You should notice the diagonal lines above and below the solid horizontal lines. These diagonal lines should be solid from left to right with no gaps.
If there are gaps in the lines or the print diminishes across the page, you should run the "Clean Print Nozzle" page a couple more times to try and clear it up. If you still have gaps at the top and bottom, you should "wick" the cartridges by following the steps given below:
1. Please open the "Solution center" again and go to the "Maintenance" Tab.
2. Select "Install color/black cartridge" and remove the cartridge or cartridges from the printer.
3. Get a damp paper towel.
4. Set the ink cartridge right side up on the damp paper towel so that the ink nozzles are against the towel and hold the cartridge in this position for about 15 seconds.
5. Now wipe the print head (on the bottom where the ink comes out) across in one direction only (left to right) until it looks clean.
6. Next dab the cartridge on the towel to make sure that the ink is flowing.
7. Snap the cartridges back into the printer.
8. On your computer, select "Old Cartridge install."
9. Repeat the "Clean Nozzle Page" one more time. If this fails to address the problem the entire procedure may need repeating.
Good Luck!!!!

I have lexmark x7170 all in one printer and i can't receive faxes it says memory full but when i try clearing it it says no pending faxes so i cam't. What can i do?

This temporary storage of fax may happen when one of your cartridge is detected low ink level. Try to replace your low ink cartridge. Sadly, if you have navigated away from the fax menu after inserting a new cartridge or clearing the message, you may lose the fax. You can try to have the sender resend the message. When this problem happens again, just replace your cartridge without turning off your printer. Once inserted, accept the incoming fax message to print it.

Mono color

These models use a "3 colour" printing process. In other words, these printers do not contain black ink when the BC-05 colour cartridge is installed. To produce black print, a 3 colour printer mixes an equal amount of the three primary colours. This process is known as "composite" black.

As the ink in the cartridge runs out, one of the three primary colours will run out first, depending on the material that has been printed. After one of the three colours has depleted, this colour will be missing from the mixture required to print black, and the print will change colour. This is the indication that the cartridge needs to be replaced. Usually the remaining colours in the cartridge will run out soon afterwards.

X5470 Lexmark printer

Lexmark and Dell use a sensor in the cartridge to sense a low ink level. Once the sensor has been activated, you cannot reset it. The printer should work fine except for the fact that you'll have to override the "low ink" message on your computer.

Manufacurers don't make money on printer hardware. All the money is made from ink replacement, so they make it as difficult as possible to use anything other than the stuff you buy from them. Some (HP) put in chips for an "expiration" of the ink/toner. Go beyond the expiration date, the thing won't work.
