Answering machine A kinfolk of mine has an old GE model 2-9876B answering machine.Could ya tell me the upgrade model to that there machine. Thank ya.

A power outage may have shut the answering machine off.
On mine there is a program button. I can turn my answering machine on or off, how many rings before it starts. If you do not know how to access the phones programs, try unplugging the little square transformer plugged in the electric wall socket and plug it back in.
The phone may tell you how to reset the functions.
Worth a try.

Hit the 'set' button on the answering machine, it will tell you what the security code is.

GE Customer Service should be able to tell you if they have a new "drop-in" replacement for your model.

I called Thompson's phone company 1-800-720-2094 (which is who GE goes through) and apparently it is a hardware issue. That couldn't offer any suggestions for the fix except to call the cable company to see if they can issue us a new hardware device. . . . apparently there is a compatability issue. . . .well, duh, ya think?!! The phones don't work with cable lines!

Press and hold the skip button. You will hear a voice telling you that the answering machine has been changed to English.
