My handset reads "out of range" but it is sitting on the base.

The handset on my cordless Uniden phone reads "out of range", but I was just using it a minute or so before. What is an easy fix?

This has happened before on other handsets (I have 4), but I have been able to get it fixed by following a formula. I tried the formula this time, but to no avail. Can you helkp me?

I have a uniden cordless phone. Recently I changed the battery of the cordless unit but still the range of the phone has reduced drastically. It works properly only when it is near to the base unit.

The range of a handset can be affected by many things. Try some of the simple, (and free), fixes first.
Where is the base unit? Is it near other technology like a TV, wiFi hub or even things like a microwave. Is it near a window or an outside wall? Try moving it to a position nearer the centre of the house so the base unit covers more signal area.
How old is the handset and base? Old phones and bases do get weaker as they get older.
Are there solid, (brick), walls between you and the base unit when your using the handset? Thicker, denser building material blocks out some or all of the signal from the handset.

MY PHONE IS ON ITS BASE , BUT IT'S READING OUT OF RANGE. I CAN'T GET A DIAL TONE. HOW CAN I SOLVE THIS?

Sounds like the battery in the handset is bad. Would also check manual to see if handset has to be registered to base unit, the symptom would fit if the handset has lost its registration to the base unit.

I have uniden cordless phone model dxa15588-2, how do I register handset on base?

1-Press the hangup key (represented by a red phone) and the "#" key at the same time for at least five seconds.
2-Select "Deregister hs." Choose the handset and press the "Select" key (which also shows an envelope for messages).
3- Choose "Yes" to confirm deregistration. The phone clears its registration information from the base and deletes the link from its memory. The message "Handset not registered -- place handset on base to register. See owner's manual for help" now shows on the display. If you are out of range of the base, "Out of range" shows.
4-Place the handset in the base charging cradle. The phone automatically selects a new security code from those stored in the base.
5-Make sure your phone is working again after "Registration Complete" shows on the display
Hope this will Help. Thank you for using Fixya !!!

I have a Uniden cordless phone EZI996, The lights on the base are blinking on & off bright red.

Hi.

Try the following procedure to reset and re-sync the phone system:

  • Disconnect all units from power.
  • Remove batteries from all handset.
  • Check all phone connections to base.
  • Check the phone connector underneath the base (RJ11 squared plug).
  • Put back battries on handsets.
  • Place handsets on base.
  • Connect base back to power with handset sitting on base.

If that does not fix the problem , then there is an internal fault. In that case call Uniden to arrange repair or replacement.

Uniden support number for your area is prited inside the user documentation.

Regards.

Phone message reads

If you are not too far away-not "out of range" then try rehoming/pairing the handset with the base unit. You probably need the phones together to do this. Your manual will explain how-it will have been done in the original setup.

ADDING HANDSET SAYS OUT OF RANGE

A search of Uniden support only said to call 1-800-297-1023 with handset registration issues. The rep picked up quickly and walked me through the reset procedure. Here it is step-by-step:

1. Remove battery
2. Hold down the * and # buttons and reinsert battery. You should hear a long beep. If not retry. (This is a bit awkward but hold the handset upside down and it's workable)
3. Screen will be blank. Immediately press the right soft menu button.
4. Screen will report that EEPROM is clearing and then state EEPROM Clear Ok
5. Remove battery (yes again)
6. Reinsert battery (this time there's no need to hold down any buttons)
7. Handset will reboot with Welcome screen and then state that phone must be registered (this is the status a handset should be in from the factory)
8. Place handset on base and it will register as normal
