Chevrolet Caprice Transmission Will not shift to overdrive

The Caprice would not take overdrive, so I replaced the whole transmission. (700 R4) and it still will not take overdrive. Its full of fluid. If I do need a shifter kit, can someone give me the details, Why, where to find one, how much? and how? Thank you

SOURCE: Transmission problems with a 2002 Chevrolet Silverado 4X4.

Fastboyz is on track with his answer.there are quite a few updates on your transmission for shift concerns. this is done with a tech2 scanner and reprograms computer. also if you have installed larger tires this will need to be updated. can cause problem also.Just because there is no trouble code does not mean it is not a computer related problem. have it checked for updates

SOURCE: f150 transmission neutralizes when shifts to overdrive

I have that exact same truck and transmission and My Transmission did the exact same thing about a year ago and there was some kind of snap ring inside the transmission that broke. I originally thought it had to be an electirical problem because the truck shifted fine until OD or if i turned OD off. The 4r70w is a light transmission and i would suggest you have a shift kit put in and they make a heavier kit to beef it up.. Sorry its probably not the new you were looking for.

sorry to say this trans has to be removed and rebuilt seems like od clutches burnt out-do you tow heavy trailer with truck as you have to tow with od off(push button on shifter)

SOURCE: transmission will not shift into overdrive

Overdrive is electrically controlled by the pcm. When it's cold you need to check to see if the pcm is grounding the overdrive solenoid. If it is the solenoid might be bad or if the pcm is not grounding it then you need to check items that would cause the pcm to lock out overdrive. Coolant temp, TPS, Vehicle speed sensor, ECT. You will have to have it scanned to do this.

YEP 4T60E HAS A THROTTLE DOWN SHIFT CABLE.YOU NEED THROTTLE CABLE TO CONTROL THROTTLE VALVE AND ALL SHIFT VALVES IN VALVE BODY.YOUR THROTTLE VALVE CABLE CONTROL TRANSMISSION LINE PRESSURE THROUGH THE VALVE BODY.WHICH CONTROLS ALL SHIFTS.

Automatic transmission slipping when in overdrive but strong in drive 3

these trucks came with a 700 r4 transmission an the overdrive gear is considerably smaller than the first 3 gears which allows it to run at a much lower rpm at highway speeds but unfortuneatly this gear also can burn up really easy, most commen causes for it burning out would be from towing cars boats etc in overdrive

Automatic or manual transmission? Does it have overdrive? If it's automatic and overdrive it's a 700 R4, If it's a non overdrive it's probably a 350 TH. Easy way to check is to look at the oil pan on the transmission. If it's a rectange then it's a 700, if it's a square with a corner cut off then it's a 350. If it's a manual then it's either a T4C or an S101. The s101 is an isuzu transmission, you should see a tag on it that will tell you which one it is. The identification of these by sight is a little harder to explain, there aren't any really easy identifications for them. Hope that helps

I have a 700-r4 transmission in a 1970 Elcamino. This shifts perfect until the car warms up. When car is warm it goes in and out of overdrive, but when the car is at full operating temp. it will not go...

most likely it needs to be rebuilt.

sounds like the seals are in bad shape, and will have to replace 3 4 clucthes

2001 impala will not shift into overdrive

your overdrive clutch hub has gone out/worn out.
It can be replaced or you could have the whole transmission re-built or replaced with a low mileage one from the salvage yard , etc at a lower cost..(which is what I did)
This is common on these trannys.

Can't get low gear

if memmory serves me correct its been a while since last tranny rebuild and adjustment
on a 700-r4 type transmission
make sure that the shim kit was used properly with this transmission cause wrong sized length of linkage can make the trans. shift improperly
you have the linkage under neith adjusted wrong the shift bar on tranny should face 90 degrees up towards front of vehicle engine for proper adjustment
