you need to bridge, yes
the other thing you need to do, is right click on the internet connection and say "Allow other computers to connect to the internet via this connection"
this should allow the ps3 to grab an IP address via DHCP

I have a PS3 and I would like to connect it to the internet through my laptop. I have Vista as an operating system, a Verizon 3G dongle, and a CAT 5 cable. What do I need to do to solve this problem?

Well first of all do a wireless search and see if your PS3 recognizes your laptop as a hot-spot if not you can't make it work. If you have a usb Verizon hardware you should be able to plug it into you PS3 and use it that way that's if you PS3 sees it plugged into it.

How do you hook a PC laptop to the PS3 for installing upgrade info?

First off you will need an ethernet cable to do this. Depending on what OS you are running on the laptop, there are different ways to get to where you need to know. So I will give you the basics, which should get you connected.
On the laptop you need to get to your (network sharing center) vista and win 7 you go to (control panel) select (network and Internet) then select (network and sharing)
On the left hand collumn select (change adapter settings), fingd which connection to the internet your laptop uses and right-click it and select (properties).
Select the (sharing) tab and then check the box that says (allow other network userers to connect through this computer's internet connection). Then select ok and restart the connection.
After this procced to connect the PS3 to the laptop via ethernaet cable and then use the PS3 setup wizard to enable the connection.

The internet connection on my laptop is thru a sprint 3g usb mobile broadband device unfortunately tht is my only nternet connection, how can i connect me ps3 with this device

If you have a cross over cable you could connect your PS3 to your Laptop via the Ethernet port and choose internet connection sharing on the 3G device on your laptop, then just make sure the PS3 and the laptop ethernet settings are set to auto detect settings (DHCP).

How to share internet connection on Windows Vista OS. I want to share internet connection between two Laptops using Windows Vista Operating system and the other using Windows XP. The Host computer is...

All right let's call your Vista computer A and your Xp computer B. First you have to bring the two computers into LAN. If you already did this, please skip the next eight steps.

Step 1: In Vista, before doing this you should enable Sharing and Discovery. You can do that by going to Control Panel -> Network and Sharing Center. Under the section ‘Sharing and Discovery, enable Network discovery, File Sharing, Public folder sharing and others if you want to. (See picture below)

Step 2: If your LAN card that is connecting to another computer is installed, it will be shown under Control Panel -> Network Connections.

Step 3: Right click that local area connection and click properties.

Step 4: Under the tab ‘Networking’, click the properties Internet Protocol Version 4 (TCP/IPv4).

Step 5: Click the radio button to ‘Use the following IP’ and give an IP address (For example, IP address: 192.168.0.1 and Subnet Mask: 255.255.255.0)

Step 6: Don’t give any other information, Click Ok and close everything.

Step 7: In computer B, which is the XP, make sure you enable the LAN card which is used to connect to computer ‘A’. Here you need not give any IP information as Computer ‘A’ will assign an IP address dynamically. If it’s not working make sure there are no IP assigned and change the properties to ‘Obtain an IP address automatically’.

Step 8: Test the connection by pinging. (You can do this by typing ping 192.168.0.1 or whichever is Compter ‘A’s IP in the comand prompt)

NOW your computers are connected. Now to share the internet:

Right click LAN card which is connected to Internet under Control Panel -> Network Connections and click ‘Sharing’ tab and enable both the options to share Internet. (Note: Unless there is another enabled LAN setting you will not be able to see the shared tab under properties)

Click Ok and close. This option is given by the Windows OS known as ICS (Internet Connection Sharing).

Now you can use Internet from both Computer A and Computer B from a single connection.

So this is the setup you need on the Host computer as you requested, if you turn out to need help witht he XP one too, let me know:)

you could try getting a wifi adapter and creating an access point, you can connect that way if your ps3 has wifi I have a laptop with windows XP Pro and have been trying that my desktop PC with Vista Home can see it.
MY Components:
-Desktop PC with Vista Home (Main PC, connected to Internet with Ethernet to a Linksys Wireless Router B and G).
-Get internet thru cable TV (broadband),from this cable modem plugs to router and from router to PC Vista(desktop)
-Linksys Wireless G/B Router
-G-Card for my Laptop Windows XP Pro and
-Playstation 3 capable of sharing info and use printer

At the moment all of them have internet w different IP's (000.000.0.001, 000.000.0.002,etc.). What I want to achieve is that I can use the Printer that is connected via USB to my PC Vista (desktop) and share files. Right now the only thing been able to do is that my PC Vista see my Laptop but Can't find my PC on my laptop. Anybody, Help?
