The LVW-5005 DVD Recorder came with a list of recommended brands for each type of disc, and they are all different in all categories. Some brands are recommended for CDs, some for DVDs, etc. They are not the same in any catagory. Most of the ones I bought were not on the list, because I couldn't find those listed anywhere in my neighborhood here in California. Some worked before, but are not working well now. Some have never worked, and some are failing intermittently.

The INVALID DISC message comes up on both units often, but when it comes up on the LVW-5005 unit the DISC eject feature will not eject. The open close door stays shut and says it is open, but sticks and keeps trying to reread the disc. You actually have to tip the machine down to let gravity help, and then turn it on and off and on and off and it finally opens and drops out the invalid disc.

The LVC-9016G unit says "change disc", or gets stuck on "Preparing". Sometimes it prepares, and then I can actually record, but when I try to load it later..... FAIL! This too is INTERMITTENT. GOD I HATE THAT WORD!!!!

I am not good a taking machines apart, and I have a MAC system 10.5 computer, and the firmware update seems to be geared to the WINDOWS PC. HELP?? Is there anything I can do.

Also IS THERE A LIST OF PREFERRED BRANDS of the media for the LVC-9016G model. It may be the same as the list for the LVW-5005 unit, except the that unit is supposed to record on CDs as well. NOT SURE> None are working consistantly.

The other idea that I had is that the newer DVD-R and DVD-RW or the DVD+R and DVD+RW discs have a heavier technology and these older burners (2 years makes it older, I guess....) and seem to no longer like them.

The 6 hour SLP I always set them to record on in the past, may no longer be valid. The 4x, 8X 16X etc. may not work either. Since I don't understand what that means, and we only have access to what is available to buy, I am at a loss there too. I am logical, but not technically educated in this technology. I come at this with psychology, not technology... :-)

I have the LVC-9016G for 2 years, and the other bought at COSTCO only a year ago. Is $300 worth of equipment already obsolete?

I have not hacked or touched anything. I may need to buy another lense cleaning disc. I have a memorex one, but when I put that in it said INVALID DISC, and will not work either. Won't read or spin.

I am frustrated...http://club.cdfreaks.com/images/smilies/6/eek.gif.

Candy Keep getting this can be due to invalid media........all types will not burn in this unit........good success....meder's tv service

RCA model DCR8295 will not record my videos to DVDs. It says "no disc" when I press record, but there is a blank DVD in the drive

Have you formatted the disc?
It will be under the disc menu screen the format a disc option.
Does it also play a DVD disc? If it doesn't it might need a clean of the lens.

Imei 355376042089636 how code unlock

I think there are several other possible solutions for the Philips CDR870 which will make it record more reliably, although using the "proper" Music Disc and cleaning the laser lens (try some denatured alcohol on a cotton swab; then dry the lens with the other end) seem to be the best ideas. Also, if you're willing to "go inside", try gently vacuuming the inside of the unit to remove possible dust problems. Turn the power off first!

Another possible solution is to let the unit "warm up" for about a half hour prior to recording, this changes some parameter in the unit to reduce the "OPCFAIL" problem. You might also try cycling through "Input Source" by repeatedly toggling the Input Button (19) from DIG COAXIAL - DIG OPTICAL - ANALOG. Sometimes this allows the electronics to "wake up". It also may help to be playing an actual input signal into the unit while trying this. I too have had frustrations with the unit using several brands of consumer and professional grade CD's. Occasionally, I have been successful in getting the unit to record music onto CD-ROM Data Discs when it's not supposed to. I have recorded onto Maxell, Sony, TDK and Discmakers (professional) blanks with varying results. FYI Radio Shack now stocks Verbatim brand discs for Music Recording (about $10 for 25 pack). Make sure it says "Digital Audio" on the outside wrappings. I am a professional recording engineer, and now plan to see if the manufacturer can help. One more idea, cleaning the blank disk with microfiber cloth has also helped. Good Luck with this problem, I'll keep watching this site for other solutions.

Acer Notebook was getting slow then i try to reset then after the process it restarted then said "Setup is starting services". It shows a error message "The computer restarted unexpectedly...

A scratched cd/dvd can have errors causing the install to fail. Use a clean cd/dvd install disc to fix it.

If you are trying to install directly from the hard drive then a malware infection could have corrupted or damaged that part of your hard drive. Install windows from the cd/dvd disc for your computer.

The problem is it says non recordable disc cant read those are the Panasonic discs that came with it how much is a new laser if i need one

I love these sorts of problems. The typical estimated cost to replace the laser (which may also contain the spindle motor in the same block - as one part) and labour including alignment, firmware, etc. is around $200 - $300 approximately at an authorised Panasonic service centre. You would need to take the unit to a repair centre for a quote on the relevant repairs/parts etc., involved. This way you can make a decision as to whether or not to go further.

However, if the discs you got with the recorder are meant to be recordable, and it can't record them, chances are the laser could just be dirty (factory dust if you bought it new or general dust if you got it secondhand) or it may need refocusing/aligning, or the discs are defective.

These are good units, but keep in mind the DMR-E55 is a 2004 model and does not feature a built in HDD or digital tuner - it is not unfixable though. The other thing you can do which is cheaper, as well as using a DVD lens cleaner disc, is to use a different brand of blank DVD-R/RWs - it might not like the discs you got with it. Have you tried different discs? have you tried to play a shop-bought DVD movie in it? if so, does it read the disc?

Try the lens cleaner disc and different blank DVDs first. If neither fixes the issue, consider the above option - take it to a workshop for analysis/quote.

I have a philips audio recorder cdr 760 When i try to record cd rw a blank audio tdk cd the machine said OPC FAIL What I have to do to record the cd rw on my Philips cdr 760 Thanks for your...

There are a lot of forums which discuss OPC failure and it strikes every hardware maker and brand of media.

The bottom line is that certain media and certain writers just don't get along.

"I don't buy expensive blanks. I buy modest quality blanks and watch
for sales so that I can them for about a dime a piece after the rebate
check comes in. If I have an OPC Fail message, I try another blank. If
I find that they consistently fail (about half a buck wasted) I move
the stack over to the computer (which seems to work fine with these)
and buy another stack of blanks of a different brand next time I see a
good price..."

an interesting workaround:

"CDRW 5000 work around for OPC FAIL
Here's a work around for OPC FAIL on cdrw 5000 -

method 1: turn unit on at least 30 minutes or more before use (this seems to work best for me)

method 2: run OPC on an old cd that always works - after OPC passes, remove old cd and insert new CD (you only get 99 OPC runs per disc)

-or use a combination of the two methods

I've always used TDK and I recently bought a new batch and they stopped working. The old ones still work everytime. I don't know enough about the system to guess what the difference is.

side note: CDRW 2000 will finalise discs from the cdrw 5000 but not the other way around.

Hope that helps "

Won't startup just keep saying starting windows

When you power on start hitting the F8 button with one seconds pause until you get the "fail-safe" boot menu...
- Choose the fail-safe mode and wait until windows has loaded.
Ckick > Start > Run and type "msconfig" (without the quotes) and hit enter or press OK.
Choose the "autostart" tab and uncheck all options.
Reboot...

Won't record record to CD-RW

First make sure your cdrw disc is blank. If it is blank try another good known cdrw brand disc and burn it in 12x speed for a good burn.

If it still fail check the software side of your cd rewriter first and lastly the cd rewriter unit.

Check disc makes the screen go blank

The disc check stopping and going to a blank screen, indicates a bad sector in the hard drive, and the drive will need replaced. If you can still use the machine by skipping the check disc, then you need to back up any files that you want to keep, eventually the hard drive will fail completely, if it hasn't already.
