CDs are formatted like any other format of digital audio.  One of the restrictions of a CD's formatting is a track can be no shorter than 4 seconds.  Usually this happens when there are tracks that were created as part of your project and were not recorded on.  When you try to burn a CD, if one track is shorter than four seconds it will give you that message every time. This is because the standard gap between songs is usually three seconds.  The CD burner's format requires it to check how many tracks there are (another limitation of the CD format is you can only put 99 tracks on a CD) so the burner reads every bit (literally bit) of audio for the gap between tracks.  You must determine the length of every bit of audio on your program and make sure each track is longer than three seconds.    I have been mixing and mastering records on CD for ten years and I still get this problem.  It happens to the best of us.  Don't be frustrated.  Remember a machine will only try to do what you tell it to do.  It wont always tell you what you are doing wrong. It will only do what you tell it to do, or not, if it is impossible.   Go through every track in your project and examine how long each track is.  Read your error message carefully. My burner will say "track 5 is too short". Check and double check. Make sure no track is shorter than four seconds. When you are confident you have corrected the problem. (delete all empty tracks) Then burn baby burn!

Ok, so I have a Tascam 2488 Portastudio. I've recorded my songs, done the whole pre-master thing and everything sounds perfect . . . until I burn my songs to CD. When listed to on CD players, th

I had the same issue on my 2488neo. What I found that worked for me, was during the mixdown, make sure the solid levels on the right side of the mini screen are at the top of the black line, don't worry about it sounding too loud. After your mix down is done, pick a mastering tool that best fits your style of music, during this process any levels that go over peek will be eliminated. Once your mastering is done, burn a CD, but don't finalize the CD, so you can use it again to keep checking if the volume does not match that of a regular CD (a known band CD from the store) this worked for me, hopefully it will for you as well..

Is there a good tutorial avail? I lost all my music trying to create a cd without finalizing or mastering!!!! Panic took over and i rushed to undo without fully understanding what i did exactly. No...

You can download a manual from the tascam site for this model. as long as you pre-named your songs, they should show in the menu without mastering. You cannot burn any songs without mastering your songs first, however. They will not appear in the create cd section for this very reason.
Record, master,burn.

Tascam DP02 - LOW VOLUMES!

Phantom power should only be used with a condenser/ribbon mic. If you're using a dynamic mic (like the one in the photo) you don't need phantom power. Also I run my mics and instruments through a mixer, then into the unit. Also if you're mixing your masters at a low volume, the CD will play at a lower volume. Try mastering at as high a volume as possible, avoid clipping of course. But get it as loud as possible while mastering. Then the master copy should be louder. I have a DP02 and found out it needs decent monitors to mix and master. That's all I've got.

Tascam dpo2 not burning a cd

You need to create a master first before you can burn it to a CD.

To create a master you'll need to set an 'OUT' point, then enter mastering mode (by pressing the master key so that it flashes) and then record your master by holding record and pressing play. The master recording stops automatically when it reaches the out point (the in point is always zero). The steps for creating a master are outlined on page 27 of the manual. Setting the in and out points can be found on page 30 and burning the master to CD is on page 67.

Hope this helps.

Cheers.
