Using the 1-4 cup setting will help, but that model does not have an actual heating element in the plate - definitely not the right model for someone who likes very hot coffee.

They sell a cleaner that you use in the reservoir. It will go through the system and clean up any build up. Do a search on line or check your manual for the name.
Brewed coffee has a palatable life-span of maybe an hour before it loses flavor. I don't recommend keeping it any longer. The thermos should keep your coffee hot enough to drink for some time. If you really want to drink from that same pot all day long, I'd probably just reheat a cup at a time in a microwave.
The squeaking could be from the steam during the brew cycle. My first suggestion would be to wait a couple of minutes after the brew cycle has finished (after you enjoy your first, delicious cup) then open the cover. If you notice any warping or if the problem persists call Cuisinart directly.
We have had our DCC-1200 for 3 months. The plastic taste occurs about every 3rd pot, and it does NOT get better. We've wasted over a pound of coffee. Cuisinart says we are the only people in the world with the problem. Well, I guess not...
Cuisinart replaced the coffee maker. It was still under the 3 year warranty so Cuisinart told me to take it back to one of the stores that sells Cuisinart coffee makers because the store I bought it at was going out of business.
Same problem...coffee never really hot and don't want to make only 4 cups
