Ice maker tray will not dump into ice collection bin.
This sounds like a thermostat in the ice maker has failed. Unfortunately, LG provides no replacement parts for the ice maker. They say to just replace the assembly, so there is no alternative other than ice maker replacement. Here is the ice maker to order.

Your icemaker tray has an update for the water flowing over the tray. You will need to call a qualified LG technician to get it replaced. Also, the tray is twisted because it binds itself against the hinge pin on the left side. To stop this, spray some cooking spray oil in the left hinge pin and it should unbind itself and return to normal.

If you look underneath the icemaker module, you should see a reset or test button. Press it once and it should do a complete cycle. Once activated, the icemake normally continues on from there. If no action takes place when you have pressed the test button then replace the module.(a little complex to repair at component level as there are many variables ie. sensors: drive motors:limit forward and back etc.).

I am an attorney near Philadelphia who is considering initiating a class action against LG related to the defective design of their ice maker. I have clients in different states who have had problems that LG fixed, but the problems re-occurred after the warranty expired. I've been advised by mechanics that leaks are inevitable based on the design. Apparently this is a design that LG had used years ago but had discontinued for a while because of leak problems. I'm usually on the defense side of product liability cases, but this seems to be a common defect. If you are interesed in such a suit, feel free to contact me at [email protected]. Not to plug any company but... if you get Sears to fix it ask them for a Master Protection Agreement on it, that "Warranty" will cover most everything like that where the typical warranties don't. Just a thought if you don't want to "eat getting it fixed" ever again. Thanks for the post to others, it really helps if people know not to wait on such issues.
