1) With the printer power turned off, while pressing the Resume/Cancel button, press and hold the Power button.
(DO NOT release the buttons. The Power LED lights in green to indicate that a function is selectable.)
2) While holding the Power button, release the Resume/Cancel button. (DO NOT release the Power button.)
3) While holding the Power button, press the Resume/Cancel button 2 times, and then release both the Power and
Resume/Cancel buttons. (Each time the Resume/Cancel button is pressed, the Alarm and Power LEDs light
alternately, Alarm in orange and Power in green, starting with Alarm LED.)
4) When the Power LED lights in green, press the Resume/Cancel button 4 times, the green (power) led should be lit to reset ink absorbers.
(Each time the Resume/Cancel button is pressed, the Alarm and Power LEDs light alternately, Alarm in orange and Power in green, starting with Alarm LED.)
5)At the end of the service mode, press the Power button

5) Then press the Power button, then press it one more for turning off printer.Restart the printer and it will printing again.
Eight flashes: Waste ink absorber almost full
The printer has a built-in waste ink absorber for the ink used during Print Head cleaning. Eight flashes indicates that the waste ink absorber is nearly full. Press the RESUME/CANCEL button to cancel the error so you can continue printing. Before the waste ink absorber becomes completely full, contact a Canon service representative.
Important
Canon recommends that you call for service as soon as this error occurs. Once the waste ink absorber becomes completely full, printing will no longer be possible

Excellent suggestion and it fixed my printer. So ... THANKS...
Before that, I was sending around the Canon homepage to a local supplier of Spare part that will cost more that $AU30 to get the spare part ... then I was told that a Technician will need to come out and charge me $$ just to reset the printer... at the end it will cost more than getting a new printer... but I just bought some new catridge so I just don't want to waste my new cartridge... So, thanks... it is now FIXED.
