Error: 1146 ach.exe has stopped working

Just wanted to add my two cents. Even after installing properly, users who are using Windows 7 on newer computers may also run into problems with CS2 shutting down minutes into editing. I couldn't find the error anywhere on the internet and Adobe told me to upgrade because it wasn't a supported product. Finally I searched the error code and kept finding it under video game forums related to graphis issues. What I learned is that Windows 7 on these new computers has advanced visual effects that create problems with CS2. Here is how I fixed this...
Start menu
Control Panel
System and Security
System
Advanced System Settings
In the window that comes up, you need to access the tab labeled "advanced"
In the "performance" box click the "settings" button
Disable ALL the settings (your computer is going to look VERY old school at this point)
And then re-enable them one or two at a time until you come up with a configuration that works with your CS2.
I did upgrade to Cs6 before I finally found the answer so I can't tell you what settings worked for me because I can't remember now. But I did have it working flawlessly beforfe my new version came in the mail.
