Possible that the belt had jumped off or has gone loose. Also check the agitator to see if this is free. Also if the bearing is defective and which could slow the revolution.
There are a couple of key parts in makeing the tub of the washing machine spin and here are some of the ways you can test whats wrong with your washer and why it is not spining. The most popular for all direct drive units is of course the drive couple which is the small plastic and rubber piece that attaches the motor to the transmission these tend to break more often then any other piece due to when made for manufacturers they do not have any metal on the three pronged connector nor in the center the replacement coupler does come with a metal washer in the center which prevents the actual spining stress caused on the piece to break the small arms that come off the connector. the best way to test for the coupler is by visual inspection so remove the cabinet, pump and motor and assure that the drive couple has not broken at all. if you need a video of how to replace the drive coupler click here http://www.youtube.com/user/RepairClinic?v=9K1KHEogf3c&feature=pyv&ad=5501893181&kw=whirlpool%20coupler&gclid=CMSzgdOGvqgCFUSo4Aod1SgCqA
Another problematic area would be the clutch that is connected to the transmission. One of the easiest ways to check the clutch is to set the unit to spin with no clothes on the inside. While the unit is spining use the palm of your hand and press your palm against the inside wall of the inner tub if the tub slows or stops this would mean that the clutch is worn or defective and would need to be replaced. Here is also a video of how to replace the clutch click here http://www.youtube.com/user/RepairClinic?v=tVc6SZ2DD4U&feature=pyv&ad=5454782141&kw=washer%20clutch&gclid=CKut8bSGvqgCFYFM4Aod4n2trQ there are also other parts that cause the unit to spin such as the motor, transmission, and timer and these will be discussed in part 2 So look for Washer not spining Top loader part II Thanks again for using Fixya
Check filter if it has one also clear pump make sure drain hose fully discharging water into waste/sink...Sounds like possible coin in pump or faulty drum bearings if drum is noisy when turning by hand........
the tensioner or another pulley is gone bad. you need to have this fixed. I would stop driving this vehicle. you can cause serious damage to the engine if the belt jumps or breaks. When you have this fixed I recommend that you replace all the components. you only want to do this once.
ha ha ha! they do dance well dont they???,,,
its the brum suport spring/s broken nothing very hard to fix, and the springs are about £10 each change them both it helps to have two people as the springs are hard to pull into place, wip the top off and you will see the two springs,,if there still there? normaly they just fall off down the back and you need to fish them out from underneath the washer,,,,,,,its a cheap fix realy
First thing you can due is to manually move the time to drain and spin mode. This will check your timer to see if your timer is working. If it start working then it is your timer. It will be your timer gone bad.
could be distributer cap and button.
could be a jump in timing.
could be coil..
there are way to many things.
narrow it down.
and ask agian. thats all i can say.
Its hard to say what is wrong but the first thing to do is to open the lid and move the tub arround, chances are that the tub just went off balance and hist the ff balance switch. hope this helped.
