Parts for coleman are available at www.mastertoolrepair.com your compressor is listed as L0502710. If however you like to tinker, you can make a pretty good reed valve out of aluminum can material or other (any ideas?). It is fairly easy to cut, does not last as long as factory stainless steel, but for short term, why not? Good Luck

Coleman Powermate VP201 will not go above 40 lbs.

Hi mjschulte815

Here are a few things to check, you may have already checked some of these.

Electricity...Compressors will run best with full 115Vot 15AMP/Or 220V electrical supply from a circuit, over the shortest electrical cord as possible.

Air Leaks..Place your ear close to the compressor and listen for air leaking, if you hear air that is not normal and means you have to locate and repair whatever it is that is leaking.
Check the air unloader valve... The air unloader valve will blown out air when you turned off the compressor, that is normal.
But it should not have air leaking out of it all of the time. If so then it is faulty and in need of repair/replacement.

Valves...If either the intake or exaust valves fail, breaks, or fails to seat, then your compressor will run 24 hours a day and never build up to the correct pressure for shut-off.

Gaskets...Check to see if your gaskets have failed.
You could have a gasket failure between the pistons and you will never know it because it shows no external air leak.
If this situation happens then the air will only cycle between cylinders and never build up the correct air pressure.
One way to check the gasket is remove the air filter, then put your hand over the intake.
Please take time to rate me

If correct then it will **** you hand against the intake.
If the valve or valves have failed then you will feel the air sucking in and blowing out.

Piston Rings and Cylinder...The piston rings could be stuck, broken, or worn and not allowing the correct pressure to build up in your tank.
A worn cylinder will also contribute to the problem of pressure build-up.

Pressure Switch...Check for air leaks at the pressure switch, it has a rubber diaphram that can fail and leak air out of the system.

Takes a long time to fill up

A reed valve or check valve may be broken or damaged. Replace both reeds if one is cracked or broken.

Coleman POWERMATE Lo502710. Compressor runs and builds up pressure and then keeps on running even when 100 PSI. It will not shut off. I do not hear a leak when I pull the electric plug to make it stop...

There is a problem with your pressure switch. You should have a little black box with a red lever to turn your air compressor on and off. This housing contains your pressure switch, the pressure switch sends an electrical signal to the switch to make your air compressor run. When enough pressure builds up the pressure switch activates, and breaks the signal until the pressure drops below a certain point. I will do some more research on your compressor and find out which pressure switch you need to order. i need you to find any numbers on the compressor you can, serial number, model, stock number, anything you can to help me find the part number.
Thank you for patience,

Take about 30 min to fill tank is this normal?

No. Normal would be one or two minutes. Either your piston is not sealing well, or the reed valve that acts as a one-way air ratchet is not sealing well. If it looses pressure while sitting idle, it's the reed valve.

I have a 5 HP Coleman air compressor. I was using it to provide air to my plasma cutter which requires 60 psi to operate. Basically, air compressor's motor keeps running, but it's stopped creating air...

You did not list model number, however if you have oilless type check the cylinder/piston by manually turning crank until piston is at top and examine cylinder for wear or scratches. If worn replace cylinder kit for full pressure. If ok check reed valves /valve plate for wear or broken reeds. If oil bath type, problem is usually air leak or reed valves / valve plate. As a general rule, you can keep track of wear by noting how many minutes it takes to fill the tank to cut-out. As the compressor wears it will take increasingly longer to fill. When new, and depending on tank size/ hp, most compessors fill within 2 ~ 5 min. Good luck

Compressor pressure only to 60 lb psi and no more

not sure but it sounds like the piston ring is worn out or you might have a bad valve.
p.s. its not your typical valve like in a car.

is it a wet compressor, check the oil.

Air pressure iI gone but motor works haappened all

As I understand it, your air compressor motor runs but you can not build pressure. Is this correct?

Two main reasons:

#1: Your safety valve popped and the air is going straight out the safety valve. You should be hearing a loud hissing noise if this is the case. Press the safety valve back in and you should build pressure. Many such valves have a ring on them (to help you find them). It should be very near the pressure switch.

#2: You have a broken reed valve. A reed valve opens or closes based on the pressure it is under. It allows air to enter the tank on the compression stroke, but will not let it out of the tank as the piston strokes up and down. If it is broken or stuck open, you cannot build pressure.

and #3, a after thought, no extra charge ;-) The rings on the piston may have broken.

For #2 and #3, it will be necessary for you to remove the head to inspect.

Find repair parts at the Coleman web site.

I hope this helps you solve your trouble.
