Not to sound dumb...but there is a slide up and down button with a lock on it on the side...you should be able to slide that button away from the lock position and unlock it that way...Hope it helps
When resetting of the TH1702 doesn't help, a firmware reinstallation may be required.
Before performing the firmware update make a backup of the player's content to your computer, to have it preserved.
All support for the TH1702 is on next site: http://support.rcaaudiovideo.com/product.aspx?product=419
Continue with Select Software Updates.
Click the bar TH1702 Downloads and select Download Here to enter the download page of Audiovox, Customer Support.
Please try to reset the player and see whether it helps. This could be done by inserting a paper clip into the reset hole and press and hold for about 20 seconds. This should unfreeze the player.
You should be able to force the Pearl into recovery mode by removing the battery, then hold down the "Play" button while inserting into USB port, after a few seconds, Windows should detect "USB Human Interface Device" (see Device Manager). Now you should be able run the firmware update. Worked for mine after it froze up one day and would not be detected as a USB device by Windows.
you probobly have too many files on it? it takes FOREVER to load if you have a bunch on try to keep it under 75% full, or yes it will take a long time! even at 75 it would... but this seems to happen rare and randomly at most..
Make sure the lock by the headphone jack is not engaged first.
If it is not locked, then reset the player by removing and reinserting the battery.
Make sure the player is fully charged before transferring songs - transferring large amounts of songs in one sitting can sometimes drain the player's resources faster than it can recharge.
