I just bought 2 Insignia MS-DXA1-APT converters for 2 different portable sets. Also bought RCA HDTV indoor VHF/UHF/FM antenna. Get fair reception without converters. 70's B/W RCA works in analog with converter off - but converter can find no channels. Other TV - 5 year old RCA works fine on antenna, but nothing with converter installed - used same converter for test - and antenna in window.
I bought a new HDTV and now i get no channels. Before i was getting 5 channels with analogue now nothing. Thanks a lot Mass Media cable Monopolies. I cant afford cable and will miss my local channels. I only have rabbit ears, can not put up roof antenna, so what can i do? thanks damn Digital
Ok first I can save you some money. Take your "HDTV" antenna back. There is nothing different about the antennas needed receive analog and digital signals. If you got reception without your converter box, use the same antenna with your converter box.
Next let's see if there is a problem with the box. Hook up a television with the antenna. How many stations do you get? Now hook up the same television & antenna, but this time put the converter box between the antenna & the TV. Do not turn on the box. Now how many stations do you get? If the number is different, the box is not allowing the antenna signal to pass through. That is bad. You want your signal to pass through the box so you can still pick up stations that don't broadcast digitally. Some areas of the country will not be covered by digital stations from all major broadcasters when the changeover happens in Feb.
My suspicion is either you did not have the antenna hooked up to the converter box when you searched for channels OR you are in an area that is not yet broadcasting digitally.

When you say "same results on both with converter on - get no signal on either set," do you mean you have the boxes on and have gone through the auto-detect routine while the antenna is connected and the software in the box is telling you that it searched but found no channels?
Or do you just have the box turned on and are flipping the tv channels? You must let the box search for the digital channels, then change the channel with the converter box. Your TV should be on channel 3 or 4. It is very unlikely you are out of range of all digital channels being only 40 miles from a major metropolis.

The date for the mandatory change has been pushed back to June '09. Many stations have switched anyway, but not all of them.

I had the same problem but realized that when it said NO SIGNAL,,,,it just ment for that station,,,,,switch channels and they will start to come in,,,

The older set needed the rabbit ears anyway - has a built in antenna which won't connect to converter. At least I don't need 2!!
NOW I'm getting results with converters off - weird tho, I switched boxes and now I get picture a bit better that previously on both TVs. I DO still get the same results on both with converter on - get no signal on either set.
I'm located approx 40 miles north of Seattle - reception with rabbit ears alone is fair most of the time, sometimes better, sometimes worse - but never great.

Sorry - should have been clearer. I turned the boxes on and ran auto-detect, and still showing no signal. I understood that there was already network stations broadcasting in Digital - could they have the signal that low that I couldn't receive them at this time?
Just looked at the 4 locals sites - all say about the same thing, none say that they are transmitting now in HDTV! Since the boxes work ok for now, guess I'll just have to wait & see!

I had the same problem but realized that when it said NO SIGNAL,,,that just means NOOSIGNAL for that station,,,,,,,change the channels and you will see that you do have a conection,,,,,,,,

Used auto-detect when first hooking it up - no signal on ANY station
converter box signal received throughout house, except in basement.
