Grind is too coarse and "pucks" are wet and fall apart.

Sounds like there is not enough coffee to make a solid puck. If you get crema, grind coarseness sounds ok. A finer grind will produce less coffee grounds for the puck and increases chance of clogging.
You may have to balance grind size with amount of crema to get solid puck.
Big problem with these is you want dark roast for espresso, but oil on beans clogs grinder. Are you using a dark roast? A medium roast works better in these. Or, can you increase the grind time? My Super-auto had a program option to increase time. But not in reg instructions. Got it from authorized repair facility.

Excess water going into the drip tray is usually an indication of the grind being to coarse. If your pucks are not solid but just fall apart this is the case. When the grinder is grinding, turn the big knob in the bean hopper down 2 numbers smaller and see if this changed. If you have a second knob in the bean hopper change the to the plus side, but not all the way to the plus. Do this first before you change the grind setting. Excess air between the grind allows more water in the brew unit and when it is done it goes into the drip tray.

3 things can cause wet grounds.
1. You don't have enough coffee going into the brew unit. There is a lever on the right side behind the door at the top. Push it back towards the rear but not all the way. This will put more coffee in the brew unit and take up the air space so you will have less water.
2. Your grind is too coarse. Pull the lever below the bean hopper towards the front when it is grinding, to make the grinds smaller. Again less air space. Do this 1 number at a time so you dont make it too fine. Let each adjustment for 3 coffees before you make the next adjustment.
3. Your grinder has come apart and is grinding very coarse (French press). New grinder.

Check the grinds. If they are coarse you have a separated grinder. It usually means it needs to be replaced I have seen them on ebay, but if you can't find them, I have some. If they are not coarse, you have to make 3 coffees before the grind will take affect. After you change the grind you have to make 3 drinks before you will see a change. If you don't have a puck in your dredge drawer, you don't have enough coffee going into the brew unit. Push the lever behind the door in the center top back to the +, then forward 1 click, and try that. There should be a full puck going into the dredge drawer that has the consistency of coarse sugar. If it very coarse its the grinder.

Try adjusting the amount of coffee and then the grind to finer. If there is not enough coffee in the chamber then it gets over extracted and you get a soupy puck at discharge, if the grind is too coarse, you might also get the same result. Think of your coffee grind as rocks and sand and that will give you a better feel for the proper setting for your machine.

If you have adjustments for your bean hopper, 1 should have a + and - on it. Move that adjustment to the + but then back it up 1 click. Then go to the grind adjustment and move it down to a smaller #, but only when it is grinding. When you get the grind adjusted you should have grinds that look like coarse granulated sugar.
If you have taken the brew head apart you may have put it together wrong.

There are more than a few things that can cause weak coffee.
Grind is too coarse. It should look like coarse sugar.
You cleaned the brew unit and left a part out or put it in incorrectly.
Grind adjustment is set too high. Turn to a lower # while the grinder is operating.
Grinder is been taken apart and not put back together correctly.
Grinder is broken and the grinds are just big chunks.

Hi There are 2 problems that can cause a watery puck. 1. Like EsWorld said, If the grinds is too coarse it leaves room for more water and you get a watery puck. 2. But if your grind is like a grain of salt, the you don't have enough coffee going into the brew unit, and this leaves room for extra water. To fix this, there is a lever on the top center of the door. The lever will increase the dose if pushed towards the back. DON'T push the lever to the full back position. This could cause an over charge, which could cause the brew unit to dump the ground coffee with out making because it could not compress the charge, or it could break the brew drive. 1 click back from the full plus is fine and will give a great shot.

You need to be sure the removeable grinding surface is clean and not clogged. If it is not clean, water has problems passing through the screen and the water cannot escape, staying in the puck...
