This DLP tv have a colors wheel.Ur tv colors wheel is dead. When u have black & white picture, colors fade in and out.The tv make loud squiling or loud motor noises. All these problems are related to the colors wheel.Hire a tv repair Tech. for this job, because the colors wheel, require take out alots of machanical's parts out even before to get to the colors wheel to replaced it.
If you are using Component inputs, check to make sure that the Blue Video Cable has not backed out of its connecting jack at either end or the cable it's self being bad. If you are using HDMI I would suspect that the Digital Board being bad. It would be odd for the Color Wheel to cause the problem but cannot eliminate it as a cause. The Lamp would cause the picture to be darker but not cause a color to drop out.
I would call a professional to trouble shoot it unless you have the knowledge and the tools to do so.
Hope this helps,

Hi, you have one of two problems, either the color wheel is going or one of the cooling fans are going, the color wheels are a very common problem in samsung dlp`s, sorry I can`t nail it to a specific part but I`d bet it`s the color wheel as they are notorious for failing in samsungs, video-tek
This can be the sync wheel assy, failure in the drive circuit for the display chip, or an illumination fault. You will have to give the set out for service.
My 3 yr old Samsung DLP has the same buzzing noise, had a tech out today and he said "color wheel". Thank goodness I purchased that expensive warranty, This is my 4th repair in 3 years.
