Hello,

First things first. If you took the lamp out of the chamber, make sure the lamp is back in place correctly. You may have to "snuggle" it up a little with your fingers (not too hard, just make sure it is in the chamber properly). Then put the door back on properly, which can be a hard thing to make sure of on this set. If you feel any resistance, it is not on right. It should go in and fit just right. Lock it down with the bar, and try the power.

The red stripe across the top is something I'm seeing more and more of these days. The optical block on this television is showing some of the same symptoms that the older ones have been showing for years. They go bad.

I'd call Sony (you can look up the number on the sony website for customer service). Ask them if there is anything they can do to help you, because the optical block is quite expensive.

I hope this helps you...

Red Stripe

the cost of the repair is fair. The color wheel is about 175.00 some other areas in the tv with the kind of problem you are relating can cost the board just above 200.00 until 350.00 then only the color wheel can practically cover the cost you are about to do. Plus labor. make sure they give you the 3 months warranty.

Zenith D52WLCD red line across the top of picture

If you see a redish bar across the top, you have a bad light engine. You may also see a bluish bar across the bottom. Contact local service company for repair.

Arched pink lines across screen. Now green and pink double stacked wording.

Projection sets have two very common problems.

The first common problem is convergence

These sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the picture to look normal. This is called convergence.

When its out of alignment the video will look 3-D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired. Convergence problems are very common on all Projection TV sets including Sony, Samsung,JVC,Philip Magnavox,Panasonic,Akai,Pioneer, Hitachi,Mitsubishi,Zenith and others.
You can get more information and a DIY convergenece repair kit with instructions from the link below.

Here are some of the most common problems with these sets...

*Screen Looks 3-D
*Colors wont align
*Screen may look distorted or warped
*No Audio/Video - TV Shuts down - May also make a constant chirping sound

Problem #2 - Another common problem is dull or washed out video.

Your set may have one or more of the following symptoms....

*Dull looking picture
*White looking picture
*Halos around objects
*Red/Orange looking picture

Red bar across top of screen??

I had the same horizontal, solid red bar along the top of the tv screen. I have an older analog Philips Magnavox TP2785C221. It just started all of a sudden. It was on every channel. However, the bar did not appear on the other input channels (e.g., AV1, AV2). So this meant that the red bar was only occurring on the antenna input. I unplugged my cable decoder box and restarted it. The red bar went away and that seemed to solve the problem for now.

Samsung HPR4252 with red horizontal lines accross the screen

I just had my HP-R4252 repaired on 12.05.09 with a similar problem. The picture is covered in horizonal, broken lines and the color is predominately red. They lines are grouped together in large bands across the screen.

The tech replaced the Y-Buffer boards (Up) and (Low) in about 20 minutes.
