GE top load washer w/no lint trap leaves excessive lint

Is there a way to work around a machine w/no lint trap? The amount of lint on dark clothes is ridiculous and they are mostly garments that are not put into the dryer. I already sort the clothing by color and use the gentle cycle. I don't know the model name or number but the GE washer is older - but new to me in a place recently purchased.

No, I don't see any lint filter in the machine. Did the older ones have them? I wonder why I would notice so much lint now when I've been using the machine for 2 yrs.

It says G157 on the inside of the cover; perhaps that's the model?

Does your washer have a "self-cleaning" lint filter inside the cabinet (on one side of the drum)?

At times filters have to be cleaned by hand when mineral deposits and lint clog them up, especially in hard-water areas.

Lint are environment pollutants because the lint from man-made materials released from clothes during washings gather in the oceans and rivers and cannot be recovered and are never naturally degraded. We need filters in our machines and we need to clean the filters regularly and put the lint in the trash, not back into our water systems. Older machine models used to have lint filter traps. What has happened with the new models. we would like the filters back.

Most US-sold washers made after the mid 1980s don't have lint filters. The manufacturers weasel-word around it by saying that the lint "goes down the drain", leading people to optimistically assume that there is a self-cleaning filter in there somewhere. There usually isn't and whatever lint doesn't go down the drain is filtered by your cloths (but whatever does might clog your septic system). As a result of this scam, it's much harder to hang-dry or iron-dry clothes that haven't been hand washed. And, if you think spending $2000 on a pair of matched "front-load" style machines will solve this, you might be wrong; many of those washers still have no lint filter.

CLOTHES COMING OUT OF WASHER WITH DARK STAINS

Hi Lynn, this is AP.

I understand you are seeing stains and lint on your clothes once removed from your top load washer, model FWS833A. There could be several culprits causing this to happen. To confirm, are the stains not being removed during cycle or do you believe the washer is the cause of the stains? If you believe the stains are being caused from the washer it could possibly be undiluted liquid fabric softener poured directly on fabric. Something more serious could be a broken transmission causing oil to leak in the tub.

There are some basic troubleshooting tips for lint to check such as undissolved detergent can leave residue on clothing. Separate clothing items which shed lint from items which attract lint. Permanent press, synthetic, knit and corduroy items will pick up lint from towels, rugs and chenille bedspreads. Make sure to Use correct amount of detergent, water temperature and water level.

There are some simple troubleshooting tips listed above and in your owner's manual, if you find they do not resolve your concern I would recommend contacting a local authorized technician to inspect the washer.

Thanks,

My Kenmore 22642 washer is leaving lint all over the clothes. If i run them through the dryer, that will remove the lint... but some of my clothes don't go through the dryer. I can't seem to determine if...

Wash clothes separately whites and light colors together. Darks with liquid detergent. No lint filter on the machine. I have found some powder detergents do not dissolve completely.

Washing machine lint trap

There is no trap per say. The lint catcher is self cleaning when the water is pumped out. It sounds like you are overloading it and the clothes are hitting the agitator. Operation should be agitation by water movement not beat by the plastic fins, run a wash cycle hot water no clothes to flush things out and try smaller loads.

My calypso machine leave alot of lint on clothing

you have to clean the lint trap before every use. I assume that you know that. also , you need to clean the area where the lint trap is really good, so you dont have a dryer fire.

Why does my washing machine leave lint on my clothes? does this type of washer have a lint catcher?

Most washers don't have lint traps, the dryers are expected to. In your type of top loader some simple traps would be located in the top cap of the agitator. They should be cleaned each load, but they only stop the bigger pieces.

Lint trap

There should be a rectangular flap on the top panel at the rear right of your dryer. the lint filter is in a chute if there is just a hole here then the filter is missing.
