Refrigerator not cold enough

Not fully loaded and turned all the way up. in freezer ice stays frozen but ice cream is soft, in fridge milk spoils prematurely. It is in the garage as it is built for, and the problem persisted through the summer and now also in the fall. It is only a few months old.

Is this a brand new unit?

  • Anonymous Nov 22, 2012

Yes, about 4 months old, this way from the start.

Did you get this figured out? We are having the same issue. Had them replace the first unit and now the 2nd unit is the same. Starting to think WE are doing something wrong.

Why do I need a separate temperature control for my fridge and freezer?

For the same reason you want them at different temps.
Older single controls would affect both temperatures. So if you wanted the ice cream to be a little softer, the milk spoiled. If you wanted the meat to stay frozen longer, the lettuce got iced.

My kenmore trio refrigerator ice maker is not producing ice, inside the fridge my milk spoils but my eggs get frozen any ideas?

Am surprised your refrigerator is 'blowing hot and cold thru the same mouth!. Try turning the power off and keep the doors be open for 12 hrs. Wipe off water under the fridge and turn on power.Good luck.

Model TFH30PRTA NOT KEEPING ICE CREAM FROZEN

Ice cream will get hard when the temperature is closer to - 20 C or -1 F scale. Water becomes Ice at 0 C or 32 F scale.

Ice cream soft means your freezer is not cooling enough.

You were cleaning the coils? Both condenser and evaporator coils? Cleaning coils and then loosing cooling in the fridge is not a good sign or combination. May be there is a freon leak and the seal system is low on freon now.

Call a service tech to check the seal system.

Unfortunately, if it is a leak you may eventually buy a new fridge after spending money on freon fill up, freon system sealant, leak check etc etc... No good news. Sorry

I noticed a couple weeks ago the frig side was not cold enough. Milk spoiling but butter not getting soft. Freezer side seemed to be working ok. Now Ice cream in freezer is getting soft.

How old is the fridge? Most units have a system of tubing attached to metal fins, which is located in the back of the unit. This tubing & fins must be kept clean as dust will accumelate & insulate the freon gas from turning into a liquid.. Another problem is when the motor & compressor does NOT get enough air to cool the tubing & fins. This happens when the refrigerator is located in a closet type atmosphere where the unit is too big to get any air to the rear of the unit. NO spacing on the sides or top. ALSO, the compressor might of died. In this case, if the unit is out of warranty and/or over 7-15 years old, buy another, NOT worth the repair. If still under warranty, call vendor/manufacture.

Westinghouse RJ275M 194l fridge with top 81l freezer doesn't keep the fridge cold anymore. Freezer is fine. is it the thermostat?

If the upper compartment, the freezer part is open on the ends and the rest of the refrigerator is cold enough, that can't be fixed. If the the box is closed on the ends seperate, check the flow control of air if it has one, check the thermostat and set it till things nearly freeze in the lower non frozen section. If all this doesn't work and you can't keep the ice cream turning to milk, gotta get a new refrigerator.

Freezer is working OK (ice cream soft), refrigerator is not working...milk spoiled etc. What to do? Possible self-fixes?

Check under the fridge to assure the coils are clean, if not vacuum and clean with a brush accordingly. While you're down there, make sure the condenser fan motor is turning. Check inside the freezer compartment to make sure the evaperator fan is running.

Freezer is cold but not keeping icecream frozen.

If, the fresh food section is 34- 38 degrees, then the freezer should be cold enough to keep ice cream solid. All of the cooling capability comes from the freezer section. I, personally, would not waste time or money on a ten year old box. Ten years ago it cost $1000, so, the outlay is $100 per year. Dump the old refrigerator and get a new one.

Freezer not freezing ice cream and milk

Icecream is a tough call. Some brands have to many artaficial ingredients and that doesnt get solid. What temps are you getting in the freezer? Is everything else frozen solid?
