Rastor needs adjustment on 60v500a

I replaced the light engine in my Hitachi 60v500a and I now have a 1' black bar that runs across the bottom of the screen. I believe the rastor needs to be adjusted but I cannot open the I2C service menu. The power button on the tv is no longer working. Is there any other way to fix this problem?

The problem is that the power button on the front of the TV is not working so I can't open the I2C menu. I wanted to know if there was any other way to enter that menu without using the power button. Thanks

Enter the I2C Service Menu, be sure the power is OFF.
1. On the front control panel, press and hold the INPUT button.
2. Then press the POWER button for two seconds.
3. You may keep the INPUT button depressed until you see the OSD with the Service Menu displayed.
4. If you don't see the service menu, please repeat Process making sure you wait until the Power blinking LED stops.
5. Execute the Memory Initialize operation after the adjustment values have been written on a sheet of paper. Highlight “MEMORY INTI”, arrow to the right and hold the button to the right (approx 5 sec.) until a check mark appears in the box. This activates the Memory Initialization.
6. After the Memory initialize operation has finished (10~15 sec, the channel will revert to CH 3.) the pink image symptom should be fixed.
7. Write back the adjustment values from your notes to their respective adjustment parameters in the adjustment mode. (In other words, set the Data Values back to the the Data values written down before the Memory Initialization procedure). NOTE: Make sure the SELECT Button is pressed on remote after every change to the values. Failure to do so will result in the data values not being changed.
8. Exit I2C menu. Press exit repeatedly until you go back to the normal picture.
9. Turn the set off-on and Confirm the picture remains in a good condition.
BE SURE TO COPY DOWN DATA SETTINGS BEFORE INITIALIZING I2C SETTINGS

Hitachi model 60v500a.the middle of the screen is a little yello

If you Google "60v500a light engine" you will learn a few things about this set which was first sold in 2003.

There are some class action lawsuits out there for several Hitachi models made at about the same time.

Most of the time these sets develop a discolored area fairly large in the middle of the screen---a lot of them had a large red or pink oval area but other colors are possible.

This set uses a LAMP for the light source and it directs the light into the optical light engine--at the top of the engine is a 3 inch lens that the picture comes out of and is directed into the mirror which puts it on the screen.

Lots of these sets develop a "burn" inside the engine from the heat--there are a series of lens and baffles inside---even slight separation inside will change the color in some area of the picture.

I am sorry to give you bad news but I have replaced a lot of these engines under extended and when they were new mfg. warranty.

The part is no longer available from Hitachi new--the only way to get one is to remove the one in the set and have it sent out for "rebuild" and the last time I saw one the engine was over 600 dollars at the wholesale level not counting the fact that it is major labor to replace.

Find someone in your area familiar with Hitachi and this model and you will see what I am talking about.

Even though this is not good news, I think it is what your problem is.

Sometimes after the my TV is one for 20 mins or so the screen warps, shooting white/pink/green lights across the top and bottom of the screen and placing a horizontal black line at the bottom like hal

Your TV most likely has a problem in the convergence circuits. ( common problem )

Here are some of the most common symptoms and example photos of a convergence problem

  • Screen looks 3D
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
  • Screen is bowed or warped.
Here are some photos of convergence problems.

Here is a quick test....

Using your original remote go-to the tv settings then goto the convergence section.

Try to adjust the red and then the blue convergence.

You should be able to move them up, down, left, and right.

If you can't move them in all directions your convergence chips are bad and should be replaced. This is a common problem.

You will need to replace the convergence chips and possibly some convergence resistors and pico fuses. Its a fairly easy DIY job or you can call in a pro. If you want to do the repair yourself check the site www.TvRepairKits.com. Their kits include a photo instruction guide, original OEM Sanyo STK chips, convergence resistors, pico fuses, thermal paste, email/phone support, etc.
