My broan allure turns on by itself

you need a new set of controls,

replace the bulb sockets they get brittle and don't make good connection

If it is a Broan, there is a delay button that was also depressed. It will turn the fans off after a few minutes. If not, then you're shorted out either in the control panel or the wiring in the range hood.

Definetly not cheap...

We installed our Broan-Allure range hood about ten years ago. On three seperate occasions since, the fan has randomly turned on and none of the control buttons would turn it off. After a while it turns itself off. During those same times, when you turned the lights on, they would blink before finally staying on. On each occasion, I have removed the screens and metal underpieces to gain access to the circut board. Once you can see the circut board, remove and replace the 3 Amp fuse that is mounted on the board. (Radio Shack part # 270-1054)...even if the fuse looks good, replace it. Each time this has work for about three years, then it acts up again..

If nothing is working Lights/Motor Nothing, Its the small transformer. Theres 2 transformers. you will see blue and yellow wires coming out of it. I do service calls for broan & Nutone

Replace the transformer. Part #R501025 Its the smaller transformer of the 2. It has blue/yellow wires coming out of it.

The problem is the little lever in the socket. Turn breaker of fan off, grab a flat head screw driver and lift the little lever slighty like a 45 deg angle. If not the replacement socket assembly is
part # R111630 comes in a pair. I do service calls for broan & Nutone

Check that you have not accidentaly switched the wall socket off in the cupboard above the rangehood. The slide switch could also be faulty.

I called Broan technical support. They said that they had heard of this issue before, but that there was no recall. I suggested that it was a frequent enough problem for it to come up 3 times in 12 mo. on one website. She was underimpressed with this statistic and said that they sell millions of them. She would not disclose the name of their supplier so that I could get some information on the actual controller unit. She did not seemed as pained as I was by having to part with $130 for a new controller.
