Washer starts and locks fine. When it reaches the rinse cycle, it is making a very loud buzzing noise, much like the signal installed on the stacker. Same for spin cycle - they don't move forward from that point and it just screeches. I removed the control board and found the R43 resistor burned out - replaced the entire board, but it's still making the sound and not pushing through the cycles. Any ideas on where the trouble is?

I agree with Gittos on the bearing assessment. This considered part of the drive system. If it's less than 5 years old, your next move is to contact Sears and claim a warranty repair on the tranny (it has a 5 year warranty on it). If it's more than 5? Well, honestly it wouldn't be worth the repair. You'd have spent more money on all the parts required than what the unit is worth (worth= what it would sell for in working condition on the market). Hope it's less than 5!

it is your bearings and your transmission the noise is coming from your bearings but because you have to push the basket to get it started your transmission is bad also

The following link explains the problem you are having with your Maytag:

It is common for the brakes on Maytag top loaders to wear and make noise, as well, as the snubber. There is a helpful tip that you can try to quieten the noise if it is the snubber. DO NOT oil it, or lubricate with any petroleum based products! This will ruin the unit and actually make the problem worse. NOTE: If the snubber is excessively worn, it was also cause vibration on the spin cycle.
If the brakes are worn, however, you can put a light film of oil on the brake pad. It is common for the pad to collect moisture in humid and damp climates and start to squeak against the brake stator. The brake pad consists of a rotor with a leather edge (pad). The leather can absorb moisture and begin to squeak against the brake stator. Oiling it slightly will get rid of the noise.
Confused? If you have questions, please let me know. I hope you find this information useful.
NOTE: There is a follow-up comment at the bottom of the link I provided from another user. The method this person used to release the tension on the brake can save you from having to purchase the brake release tool.

I just replaced the trans in my maytag.if the washer is less than 5 years old trans is covered under warranty. but here is the kicker, labor and thrush bearing is not. trans cost is about 300.00 and labor is about the same. a new washer is about 450.00 So if you know someone who can do trans.[like for free] if not buy a new one. Good Luck
