Resetting a Dell Inspiron to the factory settings allows the user to restore the Dell Inspiron to the original operating condition as if it was just taken out of the box. Dell system includes a restore utility called 'Dell Symantec System Restore' to reset or restore your Dell system to factory setting.

Step 1: Before reset any Dell Inspiron laptop, backup your all important data and programs, otherwise you may lose it. It is recommended to use an external storage device for your entire data backup, so that you couldn't lose it in any sudden occurring issue...

Step 2: Remove any other unnecessary external drive and restart your Dell Inspiron laptop.

Step 3: Press 'F8' key continue until 'Advanced Boot Options' wouldn't be appear.

Step 4: Use your keyboard arrow key to select 'Repair Your Computer' from the list and hit 'Enter'.

Step 5: Now click 'Next' and login as the administrator account.

Step 6: Click 'Dell Factory Image Recovery and Data Safe options', select your language option and click 'Next'.

Step 7: Click the check box 'Yes, reformat hard drive and restore system software to factory condition' and click 'Next' to start Dell Inspiron reset process...

This process will erase all your previous changes that have been made to the Dell Inspiron laptop and reset the configuration settings to factory setting.

Usually laptops come with a few CDs that have an image of your laptop's hard drive as it came out of the factory, all u need to do is insert the first one and follow the instructions. This should rewrite your laptop back to what it was when u first bought it.

If not, then u will need to use your operating system CD and reinstall it, but make sure you format the hard drive completely when it asks you to. This option is more drastic, as you will have to then reinstall all your drivers and progams.

Before doing either of the above BACK UP YOUR DOCUMENTS!

However, personally I would recommend Norton 360 or Norton Antivirus 2009. Both are very pricy, but they are one of the best you can get: http://store.norton.com/v2.0-img/operations/symantus/site/promo/pd/523598_nav09_360_UK.html

You could also try to fix the viruses without rewriting your computer with either of the above progams, but if you really want to be sure then do the above.
Oh and be sure to scan your documents with antivirus afterwards, coz the last thing you need is some sneaky virus, that crawled over hiding in your documents backup.

You need the system disks from the manufacturer, Dell to restore the computer to factory defaults. The system disks come in two forms, windows disks, and computer specific system disks. I am unsure of the disks that come with your notebook, but most likely they are system specific.
To restore the system, put the disk in the drive, restart the computer and after the POST (power on self test) push the F12 button. This will bring up the one-time boot screen allowing you to boot off of the CD. The next step is to format the computer and windows should begin to reinstall.
As for anti-virus, I use Antivira Anti-Virus Personal. It's free and can be downloaded from the link below.

Best of luck.

I want to restore my dell vostro 3500 to factory image

You'll need restore disks or if there is a restore partition on the hard drive then you can restore it from there. It will be less problematic to get some anti virus software to rid the computer of a virus.

I want to reset my laptop to it original version

if it has a recovery partition f11+ctrl when booting and you will come to a factory restore menu, you should be able to restore the system to the factory settings this way. if it does not have the partition you will have to do it the hard way witch entails re-installing the OS, finding drivers, and installing programs needed ( browser of your preference, antivirus, etc.)

Computer viruses are a real pain to deal with. One way to combat computer viruses is to restore your computer to its factory settings. This means restoring the settings to the specific date that you bought and set up your Dell Lattitude. There are two ways to do this. You can use the System Restore function available with your Windows operating system; or, you can use the pre-installed system restore utility that comes with your Dell Lattitude laptop.

Turn on your computer, and then click on the Windows "Start" icon in the bottom left-hand corner of the screen. Click on "All Programs," and then select the "Accessories" dropdown menu. Select "System Tools," and then click on "System Restore." Wait for the System Restore welcome screen to appear. Click on "Restore my computer to an earlier time." Click on the "Next" button to continue. Click on the back arrow next to the calendar until you have reached the date you purchased or set up your computer. Select that date, and then click on the "Next" button to continue. Your computer will automatically restart. b> Using Dell System Restore Utility b> Turn on your computer, and then press "F8" as your Dell Latitude is booting up to enter the "Advanced Bootup Options" screen. Press the down arrow, and then select "Repair Your Computer." Press the "Enter" key to continue. Select "English" as the default language, and then click on the "Next" button to continue. Enter your administrative username and password, and then click "OK." Click on "Dell Factory Image Restore," and then click on the next button to continue. Click on the box next to "Yes, reformat hard drive and restore system software to factory condition." Click "Next" to continue. Wait for the factory restoration process to complete, and then click on the "Finish" button to complete the system restore process.

Hi can any 1 tell me how to restore factory settings for a dell inspiron1012 note book, it keeps freezing crashes and gets viruses

Intro
This small tip will cover the main steps , to restore your Dell laptop to factory settings. Depending on the model you possess , the manipulations may be slightly different , so feel free to add any information you think may be useful to this FAQ.
Steps
Restore the Computer to the Default Factory Configuration

Notice:
When you restore the computer to the default factory configuration, all data on the C drive is deleted. Before performing this procedure, back up personal files. If you do not back up personal files, the data is lost.
  • 1. Restart the computer. To do this, click Start, click the arrow next to the Lock button, and then click Restart.
  • 2. As the computer restarts, press the F8 key until the Advanced Boot Options menu appears on the screen.

Note:
You must press F8 before the Windows logo appears on the screen. If you press F8 after the Windows logo appears, the Advanced Boot Options menu does not appear on the screen. If you do not see the Advanced Boot Options menu, restart the computer, and then repeat this step until you see the menu on the screen.

Good Luck (please don't post in all CAPITAL LETTERS next time)
  • 3. Press the (Down Arrow) to select Repair Your Computer on the Advanced Boot Options menu, and then press Enter.

Only way to do this would be to do a "system restore" without disks you can only hope you have restore points setup... run system restore from control panel and find out..

if no restore points contact dell for a restore disk.. remember the system restore without disks will not remove viruses or other harmful files..

Dell latitude d620 needs factory restore

Apparently your model of laptop doesn't have a recovery partition. You're going to have to get out the Dell Operating System CD for your laptop, boot to the CD and reinstall Windows the old fashioned way. Make sure the product key on the laptop case is handy.
