Printer keeps saying usb not conected

try use another usb slot or cord. possible cause would be the cord that sends signal to your computer

Reinstall printer drivers and try again.
Change usb slot

Follow these instructions to troubleshoot the connection. It may help to download and install the latest hp drivers if this problem recently appeared for no reason...
If this is a new installation, you have to follow the HP procedures to make sure you only hook up the USB cable when prompted by the software, or the installation will fail. See this article for xp, this one for vista installation instructions.

it is not inserted properly

I had this same problem and it is fixable, but not the way you would probably like, though you can still scan with the printer. You just have to open the Paint program and click from scanner or camera, and then choose your printer and click scan preview, and then scan, it works just fine but its a little time consuming.

You may try restarting your computer with your printer connected and turned off, or ensure that you choose officejet 5510 series and not 5510 twain in the scanner wizard. If this does not help, try reinstalling the printer from scratch.

You must give scan commands from within HP Device Manager.  Try this, it should be fine.

my hp c4380 won't scan gives out a error message the usb is not connected but it is.
