I could swear one time in the past when i left it sitting i saw online something about resetting the display somehow (using it while holding power button and watching fan turn on and off or something like that) and it worked. i have this feint memory of the display not working properly after sitting for months and then getting it to work. the display turns on when i hit the power, but when i hit the program button the way i did before to select 6 for interval setting the rpm just shows zero and the clocks don't start when i pedal. it hasn't been moved much so i doubt any wires got disconnected. anybody know about that resetting trick or do i need to check the wire harness and reed switch alignment?
1) replace by new batteries with the same type fulll charge, with the same mark, with the same polarity
2) clean the contacts batteries with contacts cleaner for a dirty, corrosion, etc
3) adjust the REED switch, test it, clean it, and tight any plug or connector.
4) tight the ribbon cables for keypads good connection.
Try again.
Of course you must know the power cord is o.k the c. breaker you must reset and some fuse is o.k o replace see the b.diagram
God bless you
SOURCE: After replacing batteries on Proform PF800 console stays lit
Pull the batteries out let it reset itself while its doing that check all cable to make the connection are seated firmly then reinstall the batteries, unless the function pad is sending a phantom signal engaging the display to be on continuously,or by pure chance the upper electronics went hay wire

Use your flathead screwdriver to pry off the plate on the left side of the elliptical trainer.
Step 2
Look for the magnet and reed
switch. These elements will be roughly the same size, and the reed
switch should have a series of wires connected to it.
Step 3
Loosen the screw in the reed
switch using your screwdriver. Move the reed switch by hand until it
sits 1/8 inch from the magnet, then re-tighten the screw.
Step 4
Test the unit to see if the
display and heart rate monitor are working properly. If not, move the
reed switch slightly so it is closer or farther from the magnet, then
try the machine again. Once you've found the correct location for the
switch, tighten the screw to hold the reed switch in place.
Step 5
Replace the cover plate by snapping it into position by hand
God bless you

for anyone else who comes across this. i just held the power button down until the fan turned on and off enough times for the rpm to start showing. maybe about 20 times. i then just pedaled for about 1/2 hour even though the display still wasn't working properly. the next day when i tapped the pedals, the display turned on with rpm's the way it is supposed to. despite what you see on the net, when you have one of these sitting, you might need to just reset the display, not take it apart.
