You need a video capture tool (Composite A/V to USB dongle) and the software for it. TigerDirect has a number of them: http://www.tigerdirect.com/applications/category/category_slc.asp?CatId=1428 . Walmart and Amazon also have these devices. You'll need to know the OS (particularly the 32-bit or 64-bit designation if you have XP or higher) for your laptop. Then check to make sure that the manufacturer of the dongle has written drivers for your OS.

You'll have to decide whether to use the L or R audio channel on the dongle.

You can connect the Camcorder to a Computer using A/V cable if it does have an analog a/v input. Otherwise, you may go for a stand alone DVD recorder to connect the Camcorder and directly make DVDs from it.

How to Transfer video from Sony Handycam CCD-TR416 to DVD - You need a DVD Recorder / Player, connected to your TV. Then using the audio / video cables from your camcorder, connect them to the TV as well. Turn your TV on so that you can watch the video out from your camcorder and then select the record button on your DVD Recorder / Player. Then you have a DVD that can be watched in any DVD Player or Computer with out any compression. This is how I transfer my camcorder tapes to DVD.

HERE'S WHAT WORKED FOR ME PER SONY TECHS:
Take? OUT the battery or disconnect the AC cord.
Turn the camera ON (tape, memory, edit settings) for 15 seconds.
Turn camera to off setting.
Plug battery or AC cord back in.
VOILA!
Worked for me and I had the stupid C32:11 error code for weeks! Door would not close. Followed the SIMPLE and SAFE instructions and IT WORKED! Just like magic. I couldn't believe it! Save your money TRY THIS!
