Intermittent snowy pictures under Channel 51

Previous owner had lost the original remote. He ran the channels through a VCR. All channels worked fine. We moved tv to my house and discovered that one of my remotes operated all the channels so I didn't need to run it through vcr to change channels. TV worked fine the first day. Now the channels under 51 only come in clear intermittently, sometimes for hours, but if I change the channel to another one under 51, it is completely snowy and so I have to watch something above channel 51. I have tried to change the channel to 3 to run it through vcr but even that is sometimes too snowy to view. Also, sometimes I can't watch a VCR tape because channel 3 is so snowy. What could the problem be? I have cable. The only time I messed with the controls was the first day when I removed the "Channel tags" that the previous owners children had placed insulting messages to each other. I have run the autoprgoram several times.

Snowy picture

The remote doesn't effect the channels, I would say you have poor signal or interference from another device nearby.

Tv has only snowy screen. Used the remote to

What to do if you have an all snowy picture (blue screen or the TV displays unusable signal-no signal or no sync)
1 – If you are using a digital cable box or satellite receiver (make sure it’s on) and be sure your TV is set for either CH3 or CH4 (which ever you usually view it on). If you usually view it through video inputs (video1 or 2 etc.) make sure the appropriate input is selected.
If you still don’t get a signal see if you get picture using the DVD or VCR (if available) if you do than plug the satellite or Dig. Box temporarily into the place of the DVD (unplug DVD) you may have to use some A/V cables (RCA yel./red/wht like the ones on the DVD) to hook to the tv from the sat./dig. box. If you get a signal then the sat./dig box is ok. If not the Sat./dig box is not sending a signal and is either defective or needs to be rebooted (unplug wait 5 min try again).
2 – If you are using standard cable or antenna (source) if possible check that the source is good by connecting to another TV. Otherwise try running the source into a VCR and then out to the TV using video inputs (RCA yel./red/wht like the ones on the DVD) and then selecting the appropriate input. Try seeing if the VCR plays using standard CH3 (or CH4)
If the VCR plays on video input but not when connected to CH3 (CH4) then the tuner of the TV may be defective – see if you can use the VCR to change channel using the VCR remote.

I lost my code sheet and I need the code for a Symphonic TV

If your product does not respond after you have tried all
the codes for your brand, or if your brand is not listed,
try searching for your code by following these steps.
1. Manually turn on the device (TV, VCR, etc.) to be
controlled.
2. Press and hold the CODE SEARCH button until the
red indicator stays on, then release the CODE
SEARCH
button.
3. Press and quickly release the desired mode button
(TV, VCR, etc.). The red indicator blinks off once.
4. Press the CHANNEL UP button repeatedly (up to
300 times) until the device to be controlled changes
channel. The red indicator blinks off with each
button press. If you accidentally overshoot the
code required, press the CHANNEL DOWN button
to backtrack through the library until the device
changes channel. Pressing CHANNEL UP changes
direction to forward again.
5. Press and release MUTE to install the code.
Most users will store VCR codes under the VCR button,
Cable codes under CABLE, etc. If (for example) you
want to store a VCR code under CABLE, first follow the
procedure for Direct Code Entry (previous page) and
press CABLE in step 2 of Direct Code Entry, then enter
ANY VCR code in step 3 of Direct Code Entry. Then
follow the steps above for Code Search (or Brand
Search, below). Note: If the device does not have a
CHANNEL UP button, use PLAY (VCR only) or
POWER instead. Code Search starts from the currently
stored three digit number under that mode. Good Luck.

Magnavox tv has cable channels 2-13 only. Lost original remote. Using a universal remote. Tried to auto program. It started scanning but when channel 14 came around, just fuzzy snowy picture all through...

The set needs to be switched from antenna to cable in the setup menu. It is capable of either antenna reception or cable reception. Ch 2-14 are the same frequency for antenna and cable but above 14 they are different. That is why the picture is stoping at 14. After you switch it to cable auto program again. Thanks for using fixya.

Need the remote code for a phillips dvd player

These are the codes printed in the owners manual for your dvd/vcr player. If they do not work you will have to contact Emerson and ask them for help getting the code. The contact number should have come with the instructions for the remote. Just give them the model number of you remote and the units model number and they should be able to help you. I hope this information helps you with your problem. Switch the input selector on your TV to an appropriate external input channel (usually near channel 0).
Press a button on the TV’s original remote control that selects an external input channel until the DVD
recorder’s picture appears. Check your TV owner’s manual for details.

Bought a proscanlcd hdtv 32lb30Q unable to get cable signal

Hi and welcome to FixYa,

Initially, pls confirm if below is how it is wired using a coaxial cable and not 3cable RCA to RCA:
  • Charter Digital Cable > DVD/VCR > TV
If yes and your concern is snowy or no signal on the TV screen, might it be that you have to power OFF the DVD/VCR when selecting channels on the TV itself (including when channel setup is being done).

Alternately, you can tune the TV to channel 3 and let the DVD/VCR do the channel selections.

Pls post back results. Good luck and thank you for using FixYa.

Snowy picture on VCR with only certain channels

In all likelyhood, you have a bad ground somewhere in the cable. Try other channels through the VCR. If the ground is the problem, there will be a cluster of channels that are snowy with the rest being clear. Check the cable itself and all of the connectors along it.

If the cable and connectors are good, the tuner or power supply of the VCR could be faulty and cause this as well.
