Is that really a CRT monitor 20 years old, ?
if yes, go to the menu in IT. called OSD
and turn off power saver.
posted this 100s of time but , sure nobody ever searches.
does the PCs fans spin, and blow
does the PC PSU fan spin and blow, it must.
does the monitor work on a known good pc, ???? easy no?
do so please.

you can also test the PC using a borrowed known to work correctly monitor, putting you at the least knowing what box fails.
no?

but sure turn "off" the relic and silly power saver and timer in the old relic CRT.
the old monitors and old LCD had this up to year 2007?(ended 10 years ago)
this is back in the day when PC would not sleep
so it was inside the monitor, and is a pain
until you turn it off.(sleep/powersaver timer)

I say that because you showed a photo of your PC above.
if wrong, say its not yours. and tell what is yours
and save endless, guessing like mobo bad and such.

if you had told the monitors name (maker) and model, id have sent you the book on it and told you what page to read. on this old long gone feature.

post the CRT monitor there,/the model #.
its on the front and for sure rear.
and answers get 10x more easy
    is this too hard?

  • Anonymous Apr 03, 2018

turn off sleep in the monitor "sleep timer"
push the monitors menu button, bingo.
the in the PC with unstated OS
    go to control panel
    click power icon
the turn off all sleep and hibernate features. bingo 1,2,3.
now it works, that is , if it is not sleep
and the PC is going dead.(for lots of other reasons)

i think this is PC dead issue.
replace the dead, PC RTC COIN CELL FIRST.
that bettery will not be good at 13 years old
    today. PCs age is that.
nor will be XP, it too is deads-ville.
    stuck in hotel-H3LL.

The problem's with the video card or the vga cord; the monitor is just reacting to no signal from the graphics card. Check that the pins aren't bent. If they are, you can possibly straighten them once. The second time, they may snap off.

Since the KB just flashes once, it could be the power supply, or the motherboard. If the motherboard has any caps that are swollen on top or leaking, you might need a new motherboard.

except , the CRT in his photo above.
have you ever touched any CRT monitor?
has an internal MON. sleep timer that does that."going to sleep"
first test the CRT then PC.
cant fix any PC with bad CRT or any monitor set to self sleep mode.
the timer loves to time out, then shows
going to sleep, so turn it off first.
year 1987 monitors did this and
up to 2010? (wen the VESA std. changed)
    seen here monitor OSD.http://www.pcdied.com/timer.JPG

see a 2010 monitor not too old (8)
that still has this goofy timer inside
    even.....this.
    2711x monitors)http://h10032.www1.hp.com/ctg/Manual/c03...

the reason HP has this even in 2010(gone now)
is to support PCs made from 1984 to 2000)
that needed this BS. end history .

SOURCE: my compaq presario 5000 (5WV286)will not exit

it looks like port on your PC where monitor connected gone bad, now you can double check this connecting your PC to another spare monitor not the one which is already working, even one more thing sometimes it does happen that cable you are using with your PC might not be passing good enough signal to the port , I know same monitor works on other machine but we want to find out actual port back on your PC so its worth second option to try another cable.

but if another monitor or cable swap doesn't work then that means display connection port gone bad, you might need to consider changing graphics card.

update me if any problem or if you have more questions regarding this.

thanks.

Regards,

AJoshi

Is there a power switch on the back of the power supply which is not on? Make sure the power cord is good and plugged into a good power source. Do the fans run inside the system? Is the fan for the power supply working? If not the power supply could be bad. You can purchase a power supply tester to plug the mother board connector into to verify the operation for about $15.00. Do you see any lights on the mother board and the Hard Drive light flickering? If you do and your Key Board lights are on your video controller or monitor could be setup wrong or defective. If the power supply tests good then you need to test the memory and CPU. You could also carefully remove all boards except the video card, mother board and memory and see if it boots up.

SOURCE: My monitor has kicked into sleep mode and won't "wake up".

Unplug all the Cables from Compaq Presario 5103 CL and leave the Keyboard, mouse and monitor cable pluged in.

Now make sure the power cable of the monitor should be pluged in and the power cable of the tower should be pluged in.

Now to check if the montor is fine just unplug the video cable only which will show no input signal on the screen. If it shows this signal the monitor is fine. Plug back in the video cable.

If the monitor is going to sleep mode it might be possible that the old computer ( Compaq Presario 5103 CL ) is in stand by mode. hit any key on the keyboard and it should come back .

If it is not in the stand by mode then do one thing. Check the same monitor with the new computer. If it is working. Perfect ..!

Do one thing now ..!

Unplug all the cables from your old system and then press the power button for 30 sec and let it go. Now plug the keyboard, mouse and the monitor try again.
If it works Perfect. If not ..!

Then you need to open the tower and check on the processor FAN is it running..? If its not running you will not get the display as the fan is responsible for the display on the screen. Otherwise...!

Check the Tower possibly the Tower is not getting the power.

Try these steps and let me know If it works

One long beep usually means a memory or RAM error..
Try removing the ram sticks and then simply replacing them back into the slots..
The contacts in the RAM slots are self cleaning to taking the sticks out and putting them straight back is usually enough to correct this issue..
Just make sure you touch part of the metal chassis of the tower BEFORE you touch anything else.
This will discharge any static charge you may have on your body..

Compaq Presario CQ50-103NR Notebook PC stuck in sleep mode

Try and perform a Hard Reset onto your laptop.

Performing Hard Reset
1. Turn off PC
2. Unplug both battery and ac adapter
3. Hold Down on the power button for 30 seconds
4. Plug everything back in and turn it on.

When you are back at your desktop screen, change the sleep mode and display settings to 1 minute to see if you can wake it back up.
If not, then load into your BIOS by pressing F10 during boot up. Once in BIOS, press the F9 key and select "load defaults". Once you load defaults, press to F10 key again to save changes and exit. After that, search the hp website using your product # on your laptop to see if there are any BIOS updated for your product.

Compaq Presario SR 1920NZ freezes when not in use for ten minutes...It will not wake from sleep. I am forced to reboot the system...Any suggestions..Barton

Stop letting it sleep.

Go to start button, control panel, then power options.

When you open power options look to the left side and you will see
choose when to turn off display, set it for longer then you will use it
so you shut down the system first.

Same with the second one, choose when the computer sleeps.

Just in case you let it sleep, go to start, in the search field type devise,
this opens devise mgr, now go to mouse and pointing devise.

Click on the plus or arrow to expand, you will see your mouse, now right click on it, and pick properties, now click on the power management
tab, and make sure the box is checked that says Allow this devise to wake computer.

Compaq Presario stuck in sleep mode

Connect the monitor to some other computer, e.g., a notebook, and see if it does the same thing. If it does, then the monitor is the problem.
If it does not, then your computer is not putting-out any "video" signal, and so the monitor goes to "sleep".

If you have MORE than one VGA-output port on your computer, connect your monitor to the "other" VGA port.

Or, press-and-hold the ON/OFF button on your computer, to force it to completely shutdown.

Right-click your desktop and go to Properties (Note: Don't click an icon, just the background image of your desktop). Afterward, click the tab at the top of the new window labeled, "Screen Saver." Now at the bottom of the Window select, "Power." Now change the settings so that the system doesn't turn off the hard disks, enter standby mode, or hibernate. Afterward press OK, then Apply, then OK again.

Let me know if I can help you further, or if I need to describe any of the above instructions in more detail.
