What is the model number listed on the unit? The lid lock assembly is broken. If you are under warranty get it replaced. If not remove the top of the washer and take out the switch assembly. The 4 wires going in are Yellow, Red, White, and Blue. If you short the white and blue together, the washer thinks the lid is closed. If you short the red white and blue together the washer thinks the lid is closed and locked. The yellow is only there to activate the electromagnetic switch.
Disconnecting the switch assembly will not work.
The electromagnet locks the lid and it also unlocks the lid. It is not a matter of cutting the power to the magnet.
Installing 2 switches that connect the red white and blue is the best option if you want to remove the lock.
The first switch should connect the white and blue. (LID CLOSED)
The second should connect the red to the white/blue connection. (LID LOCKED)

Yes, you need the switch or you risk burning the control board up. What is the model number list under the lid or on the top of the console?

  • Anonymous Nov 18, 2012

it says part # W10251338. I dont see where the model # is.

That is the part# for the console. There should be a model number list and it should start with MDL#xxxxxxx somewhere on that machine.

LID LOCKER KEEP FLASHING

Hi,

This is a top loading washing machine. Initially, you may want to check the lid/cover ans see if it does not seat properly. There is a switch that has to be engaged when the cover is fully/correctly closed. If not, the switch will lit the warning light as you see it and prevent any further action from the machine.

Hope this be of initial help/idea. Pls post back how things turned up or should you need additional information.

Good luck and kind regards.

Thank you for using FixYa.

I have a Whirlpool Cbrio top load washer. it won't start it's cycle. Once it senses the load, the lock lid light flashes and it does nothing. can this be fixed?

I would say that the lock has failed. Either the lock itself or maybe the pin or latch that fits into it when you close the door may have cracked / broken. If the machine thinks the door / lid is still open, it wont let you start it.

Lid lock flashing

There are two issue needs considering. Should you have very less load and get wrong setting so the sensor can not weight. Do you have any error code like F1, F51, etc...
Try to turn the drum by hand see if it is freely turn to make sure nothing was caught in between.
This motor has a nut that was loosen by time or by working with large load for long. Lift over the washer to the wall, then you can kneel down and look at the bottom. There is a 1/4 hex head nut-see if it is loosen and reset the unit again.
F1 code - the control board dead, need to call Wp for replacement, as far as I know, they cover 1 time part and labor for this code.
F51 code-motor issue or weight sensor, need to figure out which one cause problem.

Swich off the machine, try some WD40 on the door mechanism (on machine lock, not on the door) and open & shut for a minute or two. Then try the machine, spin only just to try.
